About 4500 left. It will be interesting to see, indeed. You can see from looking at this that there's usually a couple of minutes elapsed between posts. Someone really dedicated with a lot of time on their hands would be able to game this and ensure that they got the millionth post.

What should happen is Leanne Crow becomes a member and her very first post is the 1,000,000 post.But it will probably be someone that is fairly new to the forum.Just guessing!

I haven't really done the calculations, but I'd guess we'll be there in about 5-7 days.

In reality, we surpassed the million-post mark quite a while ago... since the forum basically "re-started" in June of 2001 following the big Forum Fastapazool that caused all the posts to be lost and all of us had to re-register again. So, all the posts from Day One (1996-7ish?) to mid-2001 vanished (over 1,700 of them were mine   )... if we knew the total number of lost posts and added it to the current count, we'd surely be way past a million today.

So, BEA Forum 2.0 (what we have now) will soon reach a million posts by itself. I think it's a more meaningful measure of the popularity of this community than a count of users, since some percentage of user accounts are created but never activated, and even of those that are activated, plenty are just lurkers, never even making a single post. But a tally of posts... even if just a single word... that at least indicates someone took the time to say something or reply to something.

A million is a lot, even in this day and age, when a million bucks won't even buy you a crapshack in some neighborhoods. A million dollars may not get you as much as it used to, but a million posts, or a million years... that's really saying something. Lemongrab knows it too.

I suggest a interesting exercise. Count from 1 to 1,000,000 and see how long it takes and then you will see how big of a number it is. You will spend A LOT of time if you don't get tired or lose patience. So one million is big and I hope people appreciate what a accomplishment it is. And the fact that Gonzo, Palomine and others like them take the time to look at them to make sure people don't fuck up this place is to be commended. An observation, not brown nosing.

I agree, sol. A long time ago I was responsible for getting out mailings of half a million letters. Among other things, I had to load half a million envelopes into a truck. Even in boxes of 1,000 it takes a while to get to half a million.
