Has anyone seen the new King Kong vs Godzilla movie?
The reviews seem to be you’ll love it or it sucks.I’ve heard the fight scenes are really good but the rest of the movie stinks but I haven’t seen it,yet.

Yes, the clash of the two titans is impressive BUT the movie plot leaves much to be desired. Besides, they wrecked Hong Kong, not Tokyo ! Especially Godzilla, he always destroys Tokyo but not this time.  Tokyo destruction is traditional and should have stayed so. My $0.02.

Tomorrow on the 14th of December I will go see Steven Spielberg's version of West Side Story and see how much it differs from the original 1961 film. I usually go on Tuesdays because the Tickets are $5 and the snacks are discounted. I will report tomorrow if it's any good.

It wasn't OK back then either, it just was what they did because they didn't care. Even Rita Moreno had to endure brownface for plenty of her roles, including in the original movie version of West Side Story.:

AP: You'll soon revisit West Side Story. Any regrets about the original, particularly the way they handled the racial aspect?
Moreno: "Puerto Rico was colonized by the French, the Dutch and the Spanish and so we are many colors. I am (Puerto Rican) and I really resented it when they put very dark makeup on me because that's not my color. I thought the Sharks should have all of their own natural colors. Some were dark, some were copper skin, some were fair."

AP: Your skin was darkened, too, right?
Moreno: "I remember one time saying to the makeup man, 'I really hate this color because this isn't the color I am.' And he actually said to me 'What, are you racist?' I was so stunned that I didn't say anything. I didn't know what to say. That's really also how little people know about Puerto Ricans."



I wish that for once an actual Puerto Rican woman could portray Maria on the big screen. In 1961 it was the very-not-a-boricua Natalie Wood (of Russian descent). This time it was Rachel Zegler, of Colombian and Polish descent. At least she's Latina... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Saw Spielberg's remake of West Side Story and it was quite similar to the 1961 movie and to the 1957 Broadway play.  Yes, he changed some stuff like changing the sex of the drug store proprietor from male to female but Rita Moreno did a good job of it. West Side Story is really an adaptation of Shakespear's Romeo and Juliet set in 1950's New York and rather than the Capulets and Montagues, it is the Sharks and Jets.  Same tragic story of love at first sight. At 2 hours and 36 minutes, it is about the same length as the 1961 movie. The same music and very similar dance choreography. A mistake I noticed were the cars. Yes, they were from the era BUT they were way too shiny and clean considering it was set in a low income part of New York. Obviously 60+ year old cars are found in collections and the owners would not allow Spielberg to muck them up. I recommend you see the original 1961 movie before you see this one. My $0.02.
