Title: Beyond Silicone

I've a layman's question for any implant experts around here.  We all know that silicone is the best -- right now.  But are there any other materials -- or combinations or materials -- which may yield interesting and useful results?

Do you mean "things which have been tried" or "things which have yet to be done"?

If the former, then the following two are probably familiar to you:

- the titanium mesh implant
- fat grafting

If the latter, then my votes are on:

- biotechnology/nanotechnology

....

As I mentioned in a recent thread, I don't think we'll be seeing boobs filled with marshmallows anytime soon.

Well, I consider nanotech to be way out (even if possible, might still be a while before I consider it trustworthy).  If biotech covers, say, further growth of natural tissue, then that would be a unique option.

So I guess I'm talking about titanium mesh for right now -- unless you can talk me into biotech.  (Or if "fat grafting" can be a kind of fat transfer, fat from elsewhere in the body shifted to the breasts.)

This sounds very promising! The company is actually very new and short on capital. I'm sure the right investor could bring a 6000cc expander(which would be implanted at 2000cc) to market with a stock purchase of, say 150,000 euro or so...

As for nanotechnology and biotecnology we're still worlds behind getting significative results for it, but the potential of both technologies is certainly extraordinary.

Stating Silicone is "the best" is matter of opinion and depends on your definition of "best".  For example, if you mean "feels more like natural breasts", then you're right.

If your goal is the big round fake look, major overfilling is one of the best ways to this look and to my knowledge, saline is still the only option for overfill.

I bed to differ.

You are most likely already using things that employ nanotech. What you are probably thinking of is nanites (tiny machines) and we already do make progress there.

We are able to place a single atom and there are scientists who seriously believe that technology similar to the replicators in startrek will be widely available in 20 to 50 years. More conservative scientists say 100 years.

This is nanotech too. Also the lotus surface structure or the coating on hip implants.

We are also very close to major break throughs on the bio-tech front and some of the research is already used.

So don't be surprised if what you are looking for is possible sooner than you thought.

In any case we need an implant material, that moves naturally (or not), is lighter than fat or current implants but s also stable in ints form without being totally hard but rather soft.

A filling with any gas is a too high risks if it leaks since it could kill if it gets in the blood.

But it would be awsome if you could have boobs as big as basketballs that weight just 500g or 1000g.

I'd find it interesting to see some sort of biotech (not sure if it would be using a protein-based computer, or what), whether in the form of pill or injectible (or transdermal cream, for that matter), but what I envision as possibly the first step would be some sort of flat but flexible disk which gets inserted through a breast fold incision.

Once placed, the disk would first match up with neighbour cells so that it would be able to create more cells which wouldn't automatically be rejected, then start some sort of symmetric growth.  Some thought would need to be put into this, so that the appropriate rate of growth from different points on the disk will occur.  You don't want something growing into the shape of a tennis ball any more than you'd want it to assume the shape of a small football.  Or a cylinder.  I'm sure those who are into advanced mathematics would have a good idea how to specify this algorithm (deterministic vs non-deterministic).

And of course there's the ever-critical threshold, and how to set that flag.

Stem Cells turn into Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants could be replaced by tissue grown from a person's own stem cells within a decade, suggests new research.

Jeremy Mao of the University of Illinois, in Chicago, US, took human stem cells and used these to grow fat tissue using a biologically compatible scaffolding. He then successfully implanted the tissue into mice with an immune deficiency to prevent them from rejecting the implants. The implants had maintained their size and shape after four weeks.

"This is a project that builds on previous knowledge to develop a stem cell material that could be useful in society," says Mao. "It seems promising and could soon be making an impact."

Implants grown from stem cells could provide a safer alternative to silicone or saline implants, which can rupture and also interfere with breast cancer detection. They could also be aesthetically superior, keeping their shape and size for longer than artificial inserts, which typically shrink by 40% to 60% over many years, through spreading.

Reconstructive surgery
Eventually Mao says the technique could be used to develop more suitable tissue for reconstructive surgery as well as cosmetic augmentation.

The experiment involved key-hole surgery to extract mesenchymal stem cells from human bone marrow. These "master cells" can grow into various other different types of cells, including bone cartilage and fat. Mao coaxed them to develop into fat cells by mimicking the conditions that would cause this to happen in the human body.

The cells were then moulded into shape using a hydrogel scaffold and inserted into mice for a period of four weeks. Following implantation the eight mice involved in the study suffered no discernable ill effects and their implants maintained their original size and shape for the entire month. This is substantially longer than artificial inserts, which normally begin to deform after a week or two.

Mao believes breast implants grown from stem cells could be available within a decade. Ideally, the scaffold would disintegrate safely inside the body as the implant grows, he says.

Growth factors
But he admits that several questions remain over the viability of grown implants, including how they will react to surrounding tissues and whether any special growth factors might be required.

Donald Ingber, of Harvard Medical School, part of Harvard University in Massachusetts, US, says the work, which will appear in the April issue Tissue Engineering, is promising. But he cautions that more complex cell techniques may be needed to grow viable implants for humans. "The breast is more than just fat," he says. "And you might want specific patterns of growth rather than just growth."

But Ingber told New Scientist that it might be possible to engineer controlled growth using alternative types of scaffolding or by chemically treating surrounding cells so that they manage the growth of the new ones.

Mao presented the work at the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference in Washington, DC, US, on Thursday.

Yup, familiar with the stem cells making for good breast augmentation.  However, I don't think it's the case of stuffing a thin disk into the breast.  As far as I know, the stem cells are used to create the completed shape, and the completed shape is then surgically implanted.

That said, I'm still thinking in terms of having a programmable device which is extremely thin, but has the instructions to tell the body to grow to a certain shape and size, not stopping until that endpoint is reached (think of a "while" or "until" loop in programming), but defintely stopping once reached.

Actually a urethane silicone copolymer shell has excellent potential.  Shell thickness and strength is always a balancing act.  Thick shells do not have aesthetically pleasing results.  Thin shells are too weak.  A urethane silicone copolymer can produce a shell that is 1/10 the thickness of a silicone shell and many times stronger.

I just met Chelsea Charms -- more on that later -- and while the woman herself is sweet and her body is a visual wonder, the tactile experience was an odd problem.  One expects heaviness, but this was a very concentrated kind of heaviness.  I was hoisting one and then the other, back and forth, and commented "This is great exercise," and she was nice enough to laugh -- but you usually don't expect something from foreplay to feel like exercise.  (Exercise should be in the act itself.)

Augmentations continue to be visually interesting, but now I'm looking to what it takes to expand breasts while still keeping them relatively light and pliable, i.e. fun.

Hi again,

since weight is a major issue I was searching for "very low density solids" and came across aerogel. I had heard of it from the NASA project for collecting spacedust to be stopped by it from high speed and trapped in it. So it had to be quite strong material.

The part interesting to us is this:

So I thought what if you build an implant with a core of that stuff and only a relatively thin "crust" of normal filler around it to make it soft to the touch?

Reading on I found this:

So it could be used as small particles in saline or silicone to make it over all lighter.

For the shell of the implant one could embed a mesh of carbon nanotubes since they are extremely strong but also tiny and light but the implant would stretch less.

This together could lead to building implants of 12000 (Chelsea's size) while weighting only 3 or 4 kg still heavy but manageable.

It would require some tests before the "authorities" allow to use some of these new material inside the body, but even so the implications of this discoveries (originally intended for other tasks) would have a deep impact in the most unlikely aspects of life.

Well this stuf is hardly new - I't was discovered in the 1930s and it can be (is used already?) for drug delivery so is no real prob for the body. I guess you would need to test about pressure stability and how it will react to body fluids. Although if embedded into the silicone it would not be exposed to the body so should not be a prob. In any case I think it is worth investigating further.
Maybe some one with contacts could point this out to some implant manufactures?

Think about this from time to time I thought that a solid core would not e very good since this means the implant would need to have the final shape when implanted. This in turn means the cut for insertion would need to be big enough to fit the full implant through.

I would not like having such a huge scar halve way or more around each breast.
If it could be build as an expander that will be filled with a saline or silicone mixture containing aerogel particles it would be way better.

Maybe I could be a beta test candidate and get them for free once they seem save?

I just watched some videos of PBD and I got so envious again. Oh how I want such beautiful ball like tits.

How about using a shear thickening fluid like D3o to make the implant self dampening to violent movement like running. as the fist violent movement of the implant comes to the end of a swing the fluid would thicken in a reaction to the movement and dampen the following movements. Until the the movement stops and gets its normal viscosity.

What are the characteristics we are looking for here, or to exceed?  What is the shore hardness and tensile strength of cohesive gel and the liner/casing?  What is the Shore hardness of human fat?  Skin I've seen, at up to 3 ShoreA.

I am still looking for that information.  The "Shore hardness" scale is a relative measure of how tough--indention proof--a surface is.  All the silicone preparations I've seen that approximate human tissue have no strength to speak of.  Examples, tire rubber is generally around Shore 70, and human skin is around 3.

A gelatin should work thinking about it. It can hold firm yet be soft and jiggly just a like a real boob. Also most gelatins are the same weight as one's breast are. Weather in a implant or injected it should work if you can find or make the right one(s).

Sorry, but i dont think, that scientists would search for a material, that would be implantable, dense and very light to create humongous breasts like chelsea charms or beshine weighting around 2 or 4 kg.
There are only a few girls who are willed to go bigger than 2000ccs i think. Most girls prefer an implant size around 300-600ccs. And this volumes doesnt need to be very light.  And thats why there are no great need of creating an perhaps expensive material that is very light and implantable.
I am dreaming too of breasts that are two round orbs perhaps 1/3 or half of the body volume of the girl, but i dont think, that scientists doesnt search for it, cause there is no need for it and it has to be good to sell...

But never say never ;)

Thank you your welcome is well received. I did have one more idea for a new breast implant that I posted on Beshine's forum. Bead implants it was my attempt at finding a lope hole in the string implant law set by the FDA, if the law was just on the string part then useing beads could be a way around it but if the law is the material then what can you do. Other then have thousands of huge boob lovers right to the FDA. You can still use bead implants without them being polypropylene they just won't grow on thier own. The idea is to make soft 10mm balls why??? 10mm's is 1cm and being 1cm tall, 1cm wide and 1cm deep that make 1cc for each bead. At first you have to make a pocket in the breast then place how many beads you made the pocket in cc. To stop the beads from falling out they are glued in to a sphere that is body safe, the glue will brake down in a few days. This will let the beads fall in to a more natural shape. A mash will also be put in behind the breast to stop any few beads that try to wander off and leave. Also if a (person) "I'm not going to judge you" wants thier breast to be bigger you won't have to take the old one's and put new one's in. Just a small cut near the armpit 13mm to 15mm wide so a tube can be placed injecting a mix of beads and saline, also drains will be put at the bottom to let out the saline. I think thats all the info I can give you guys and girls every thing alse youll have to find out on your own I guest.

It's not the material. The PPP filament has been used in a mesh format for hernia repairs for quite some time. Going from memory, I believe it has been over 40 years.

I had a thought a week ago why not just make textured implants ???. Okay stay with me and I know this is not the best place for this but I could not think of a better one. If the reason string implants are so awesome is that they make the breast pocket that they're in fill with fluid why not just make a normal one that can do the same thing. Adding texture to the implant will have the same effect just you don't get them drained you just move up to the next size untill you reach the size you want then you put in normal non-textured ones. A major problem is the law that states a person can only have some many cc's in thier breast at one time so if a woman gets that big she has 3 choses to make. 1 stop there and go no bigger so that she will not have to go out of country spending lots of money or go black market. 2 go out of country spend a little more to get much more boobage. 3 just go with the flow not the best option but it is one just let your breast keep swelling with the smaller implant sure the implant will be swiming in your tits and if you shake them you will feel them hit the walls of your breast but it's a small price to pay to have huge boobs.

I'm not sure why this disinformation continues to be repeated, but this simply isn't true. If it were true, then Chelsea Charms would be in jail.

The issue has to do with the FDA primarily, and the implant manufacturers which need to follow the FDA guidelines. You can't get silicone implants larger than 1000cc in this country (I'm expanding the definition to include those women who are in the 1000cc silicone field trials), you can't get saline implants rated at more than 850cc (I don't think that saline shells rated at 1000cc were ever marketed, but I'll happily hear info to the contrary). That said, there's nothing to stop a surgeon from pumping more than 850cc into a saline implant shell. Far, FAR more. It's been done, it continues to be done. It then boils down to the surgeon's experience, and whether the surgeon wants to be known as the sort of surgeon who does huge implants.

It's been a long time not posting on this thread but I had an idea or two and I wanted say them and hear what you think. This first idea came to me when reading the Beshine thread people were talking about how Beshine's breast implants don't float and thinking tho they don't float they could if someone changed the saline to a synthetic oil. A synthetic oil could give the best of three worlds if you found the right one and bring it too market. Those three things being the post expansion option of saline, the some what natural look and feel of silicone even tho it's an implant and being lighter then the other options meaning they float. I know we talked about gas/air implants before for the purpose of making a lighter implant just I feel it's way too far down the spectrum of weight for more then 50 girls maybe too try and then only 4 to 5 girls to keep. You may think that sound like PP implants but with a twist those 5 girls most likely won't get the biggest boobs in the world. I should stop talking about the gas implant idea and get on with my second one. A non newtonian fluid I feel could be used in really fun ways inside of a woman's breast implant. I don't want the type that most know to actually say what one I'm talking about that's the one when it's resting it's soft and when you put pressure to it, it gets hard or firm that's not the one I don't want. The one I do want does the opposite, it's firm, hard or solid when ever at rest giving a girl nice firm boobs that would fall out her top just from bending over, but are soft and jiggly when ever someone plays with them or she starts to really move around. There is a material called aerogel which is lighter than air, semi transparent and is solid kinda like jello. I remember there was a discussion about it sometime in the past but I forgot why it was decided it might not be a compatible material. But imagine if it was a fluid with the aforementioned properties. Women could get transplants and have breasts literally bigger than beachballs and no weight issues.  :)

Synthetic oils are probably a no-go.  we've been trying to use them in implantable devices for decades and the body tends to react very poorly to them and they also tend to degrade other lightweight synthetic materials, so an implant shell that would hold it without leakage would be expensive as Hell.  If weight is an issue a shell filled with loosely packed polyethylene or silicone beads in a saline solution might work.  Not sure how it would feel though.

I personally favour a biological line of inquiry for augmentation instead of artificial methods. I'm looking at gestational gigantomastia as a starting point, the growth rate is phenomenal for the amount of time and it's totally natural. If we can determine the causes and how it happens, recreate the conditions and control the growth, we could put the implant industry out of business.

Andy the biological way was going to be my next post but I felt it was to long winded to post with the others I did.

Ninjrk thanks for the info. I thought of bead implants before my first idea was just to have the bead placed in the breast with no shell and that might still work but my bead implants 2.0 idea is to have 10mm sized beads inside of a silicone or polyethylene shell that has 4mm eyelets in them. One more actual breast implant idea I want to call them squid implants for they tentacles. You take an every day silicone/saline breast implant and put 100 or so tentacles that will be 5mm thick and how ever long you want them to be. The soft silicone tentacles should acted just like string implants with the twist because for you should be able to make these implants into expanders so when you drain the outside of them, you can then fill up the inside ;D. Next post I will be talking about DNA should be fun.

someday implants will be so big that they would need to be made in sections and assembled latter, and the only way those could get implanted is bt implanting the empty shells and filling them out after the sutures have been closed

I said I would talk about DNA so here I go. The best way too go about using genes to make boobs grow is to not to have them (do you know what I'm saying) :-\. You see if you try to find genes that say grow big breast your going to find more then you where looking for and it's only going to be good for people that are going through puberty and not fully grown people who want it. A better way is to find the small few genes that tell one's breast not to grow, by removing some or all of those genes will cause a person to grow bigger TITS. If you don't know why that is it's because even tho are bodies are one living being, if you take off the limits the thing that says no no two lumps of sugar is fine, it will just run wild trying to take over the bodies resources for it's self. It's like removing the main predator for a pray animal, that animal numbers are going to sky rocket, just in this case once we reach are goals we put back the thing we took out. I'm I making scents? One does not have to go as far as removing the gene if they don't want to one could just block it, it all maters on how far or big they want to go or how much money they have. This is part-A part-B coming soon.

Well, here's hoping that they finally get PEG implants off the ground. Basically by mixing a relativly safe filler (polyethelyne glycol) with saline, it's possible to recreate that silicone feel with the safety of saline. Also it can undergo osmosis and expand in a reliable safe manner. More info here:

Actually a urethane silicone copolymer shell has excellent potential.  Shell thickness and strength is always a balancing act.  Thick shells do not have aesthetically pleasing results.  Thin shells are too weak.  A urethane silicone copolymer can produce a shell that is 1/10 the thickness of a silicone shell and many times stronger.

So the article itself says that despite the common name urethane, ethyl carbamate is not a urethane.

Still wondering about what the professional's impression is of silicone string?

Should be dramatically easier/less iritatting on internal tissues than PPP string, and have a a specific gravity < 1.0 to boot.

Not carbamate.
