Isaac Asimov

When she heard about his death, Nobel Laureate Doris Lessing is reported to have said it was like hearing that the Taj Mahal had collapsed.

With open shirt sitting in a green wood.
I take off my cap and hang it on a jutting stone;
A wind from the pine-tree trickles on my bare head.

John Lennon.  I was working as a temp worker at that time, and was in a van with a bunch of other guys on our way to a job.
When it was announced, it was like all of us had been hit in the head with a hammer.  And the incomprehension that occurred when it turned out it was an assassination was amazing.   :(

I apologize in advance if I post duplicate pictures in any of the picture threads I deal in.  My MO in getting pictures of one girl is to rip her Instagram.  That ends up with me having up to 2000 pics of her.  I've tried almost half a dozen duplicate finder programs, and none of them find all of the duplicates I inevitably end up with.

Yeah, I remember going into the student lounge at school and all my friends were gathered at a booth looking totally shell-shocked.

James Honeyman Scott of The Pretenders.  They were my absolute favorite band.  When I heard he’d died I was just stunned.  How could it be?  It made no sense.  Within a short time, later, the bassist had also died.  I was devastated.

John Wayne, along with other cast members and crew, filmed the movie “The Conqueror” near a nuclear testing site in the Utah desert. This decision had lasting consequences due to the proximity to the infamous Nevada Test Site, where approximately 100 nuclear bombs of various yields were detonated throughout the 1950s.
Tragically, out of the 220 people involved in the production of “The Conqueror,” 92 died of cancer, including Wayne, Hayward, and Armendáriz. The barren hills around St. George, where the film was shot, were likely contaminated with deadly nuclear dust from the nearby nuclear tests. . Although authorities at the time deemed the filming site safe, modern research indicates that the soil in some areas remained dangerously contaminated until 2007.

Well, he was a very heavy cigarette smoker also, and he had a lung removed.  :(

JFK.

Yeah, I was seven years old when that happened and living in Mexico. I first heard that the President was killed and my parents and I thought it was Adolfo Lopez Mateos, President of Mexico but then We heard it was JFK and my American mother cried since she couldn't believe anyone would kill the USA president, regardless of party. I was too young to understand the consequences of such an event.  :(

I was in the 5th grade when he was shot. Still have conversations today with people of my generation about "What were you doing when you heard Kennedy had been shot?"

Anna Marie Malle.

We made love at the Mirage in Las Vegas in August of 2003. After I said to her if she weren't already married I'd marry her. She said "I'm not married." So I asked her to marry me. I didn't want her to think I was a liar, but she replied "I don't know you well enough." I said that can be fixed. She smiled at me and said "Yes it can." then she kissed me again.

We were working on that when I got the word that she had died in an accident on Blue Diamond Road in Vegas, January 25th, 2006 at about noon.

I was devastated. For weeks after I would just spontaneously start to cry. I was seriously considering suicide and probably would have if not for Nina Hartley who was hurting herself but saved my life by letting me share my pain with her and vice versa.

The worst part. I never actually told her how much I loved her. I kept thinking don't go too fast, she likes you, take your time and don't fuck it up. Then suddenly our time was all gone.

To this day I wear a black tungsten carbide ring on my wedding finger as a mourning band and I hope that when my time comes and I pass beyond this life I will be with my beloved Anna again.
