I got this picture off a blog, no identifying information included - certainly nothing that said "Daktari Lorenz". How is reading the forum rules supposed to help with this? You guys who have been around for years may have these girls memorized, but how exactly is a new person supposed to keep from running afoul of the banned content list? For example, who is "the original Bettie"? Surely you don't mean Bettie Paige? Do you have a post somewhere of all these banned model's faces for easy cross-referencing?

"Bettie" is a model named Bettie Ballhaus. There are now two commercial sites devoted to her, and Daktari Lorenz owns the original one.

We understand that it's difficult to recognize/learn/track who owns the copyrights to what, but the BEA's owner has made a binding promise to Mr. Lorenz that his content won't be posted here. All of the prohibited content rules are based on requests, demands, or legal threats that we've received from copyright-owners, so we can't afford any mistakes, honest or not. You can make sure that a picture-post is allowed by finding the name of the copyright-holder (using Tineye or Google Reverse Image Search), and checking it against the prohibited content list in the forum rules. If you can't determine the copyright holder, then please don't risk posting the image.

You're also welcome to PM me or another mod and ask about an image before posting it.

Pal adds: yes, your question Tomoe has been raised many times before... it's an unavoidable situation. Because of that, no one is banned on their first offense. However, the fact remains that any time prohibited content appears in the forums (no matter how much of an honest mistake) it creates tangible legal liability for this site... which is why we always advise: if you don't know that an image is 100% safe to post per the rules, don't post it.

Wow - I am very much enjoying this "reverse image search" utility and am appalled it's taken me this long to discover it. I'm not sure yet how useful it will be for figuring out copyrights, but it's extremely handy for ferreting out smut blogs. *Joy!* If the consequences of a mistake are so dire, perhaps a good step to take would be to post these tools on the banned content page? It may not fix the problem of "difficult to track" copyrights, but it would empower clueless-yet-well-meaning people like me to make less work for you.

Once you become familiar with the work of Daktari Lorenz, you'll be able to spot it a proverbial mile away.

I wonder, since he uses the same style of logo on all his photographs, could we just post enlarged images of those logos so that people will know which websites (and models) are part of his "family"?

Pal replies: if you'd like to build a thread with collages of crops of logos, and list of models within his stable (for lack of a better word) please feel free and we can link to it from a FAQ thread. The only caveat is that no such list could be exhaustive without maintenance... updating as new models are added (also a disclaimer that some models who pose for Daktari/etc... ALSO work elsewhere too). So, if you do decide to compile such a reference, please include a line about the list not necessarily being comprehensive, i.e.: just because a model doesn't appear on the list it's not a guarantee that the image is OK to post... ultimately the responsibility to be sure it's not a violation lies with the user doing the uploading. Thanks!
