No. But I was raised Jewish and I'm an atheist. I couldn't give 2 craps about Xmas. Living in the south and working in a super religious office makes me even less in the holiday spirit. I enjoy the holiday, I hate the fact that it begins on Thanksgiving.

I have a friend who is a lawyer; he does mostly traffic tickets now, but his real love is bad movies. He was on the local NPR radio station this morning and mentioned Christmas Ev-Il. He said he had seen it once and remembered it as being very good, but, he said, "I saw it at a time of too much alcohol, too many pills, and bad career decisions." I think you had it right the first time, RX.  Long Kiss is one of my own favorite Christmas movies.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is my favorite Shane Black film by leaps and bounds and should be required viewing. However, as an ex Jersian, one particular quote from TLKG always has me in hysterics.

Anyway, another Christmas tradition that doesn't get much notice any more is the telling of ghost stories around Christmas. Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" comes right out of this Victorian era tradition, and it wasn't the only one he wrote.

Maybe it has something to do with the cold and dark, and the need to huddle close by the fire for warmth that is conducive to the telling of scary tales. Or a legacy of pre-Christian Celtic beliefs about Yule being the second-most haunted time of the year after Samhain; it's the brief time after the death of the old year and the birth of the new one.

In the 1970s, the BBC had a series of annual specials entitled "A Ghost Story for Christmas"; and it's even possible to suggest that the holiday specials in the new Doctor Who are a continuation of this tradition.

There are plenty of anthologies of these stories out there, so check your local library and get ready to snuggle up under the blankets.
