an interesting news article

AOL's news for 10-9-03 reports that the FDA may be reevaluating the silicone breast implant ban in the next few weeks "pitting women against women" in which proponents are arguing they enjoy the better feel and like the option as a better reconstruction option after breast cancer surgeries versus the women who said the implants were the source of all of their ailments....Will silicone make it back to the US market?  Only the FDA will tell.  News at 11.

This is a 99% political issue, with US implant makers both gunshy about a future replay of the DOW silicone implant lawsuits/settlements and anxious to sell new silicone gel filled implants to girls that currently have saline implants.  My guess is that there's a 50% chance that silicone gel implants will eventually be approved for first time BA patients, but that liquid silicone implants (which we all know and love for being so natural looking and feeling) will still be reserved for "re-do" patients who have already gotten saline implants and are unhappy with the results as they are under present FDA rules.  Actually, I find that the silicone gel implants are a bit too "play-dough-like" to be considered natural - I've met a few European girls who had cohesive silicone gel implants and was less than impressed.  US girls can basically achieve the same look and firmness with overfilled saline implants.
