veggies are good for you?
« on: December 21, 2003, 10:34:45 PM »
so, the other day i was chatting with a coworker. she has been pregnant for 7 monthes so far and i noticed she ate alot of salad, 90% of it being lettuce. i joked to her the other day about she eating like a rabbit, and she told me she read that eating alot of lettuce can increase your bustline and make you lactate more (she says that, but she is tiiiiiny). does anyone know if there is anytruth to that?

As I understand it, she would probably get more nutritional value out of her particleboard office desk if it were ground up and she ate that if to compare it to iceberg lettuce.  So I sincerely doubt it.

Lettuce is not one of the known galactogogues (I love to use that word!). Dill, however is. Give her a jar of pickles.

BTW, breast size is no indication of a woman's ability to produce sufficient milk to support her baby.

And not ALL lettuces are as devoid of nutritional value as iceberg lettuce (which I cannot stand personally). However, even iceberg is probably better for you as a meal replacement assuming you don't add fatty dressings... better to fill up on a salad meal once every few days even if it's of scant benefit nutrition-wise, than to have a high-protein, high-fat meal that would have been par for the course. Most folks intake FAR more than their USRDA of both fats and protein, so missing a little can't be much of a problem.

I think the only way vegetables will help inprove a bustline is if you stuff a couple of turnips in your bra...

(related to pink's hamster thread) hope pink doesn't give that a shot. hamsters hanging from her breasts would be just down right odd.

Back to Iceberg lettuce...

The only beneficial contents are a little fiber and water.
If only...
