Zookie, if you're using IE, there's a bug that'll only allow you to save images as .bmp if your IE cache becomes to large. Go under Tools, then internet options, then remove your temporary internet files. You should then be able to save images as .jpg again.

Big Daddy - here is the original pic of my avatar. It is Jun Kusanagi. (correct spelling?)  Yeah, that pic is by far my favorite "size & shape".

Fraction, that's not fixing it. When I try to save the picture it comes up titled "Unknown" and a BMP.

Considering how long it takes to download, I wonder if it's being sent as a BMP.

Ah, sorry, my bad. I had a similar problem in the past with IE only saving images a .bmp, but after testing it with IE, it looks like this is a different problem.

Jump the IE bandwagon and use Mozilla! The pics save correctly as .jpg under Mozilla.

Are you running a firewall, protection proggy, pop-up stopper or antiviral system? I've found on occasion that any combination of these may create this situation. (They are busy here in the forum with WebTrendsLive, a site monitor.) While I'll admit IE gets plain wiggy, it makes no sense when your cache is near full, that the sytem would opt to start saving images in a larger file size format. Mozilla doesn't appear to have this problem and tech tv recommends Avante-browser (with built in pop-up blocker). You might want to switch.

(Shakes fist at IE)

While there's a few pages that're formatted just for IE, I've personally found Mozilla to be great, mainly because it also blocks pop-ups and has tabbed viewing.

Fraction I am having the same bmp saving issue that Zookie is and your solution did not work for me

Do you have a link to some sort of Microsoft ticket/solution/known issue thing on this? I would like to get a resolution on this for everyone who uses IE.

EDIT: jcastick  hitting refresh worked, but I cleared the cache too Going to post the thread link and your suggest to the Site Issues forum.

Hey Imaginos,

Yeah, I don't think the .bmp problem I was having a while ago was exactly the same .bmp problem people are having here on the forum. All I had to do in the past was clear my cache and images saved correctly, but my IE is running into the .bmp for the Pam photos as well. Maybe it's just the way these specific jpeg images are written that's confusing IE.

For pop-up blocking in Mozilla, do Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Scripts & Plugins

You'll see an "Allow scripts to..." and just uncheck "Open unrequested windows". It does a pretty good job as I haven't had a single pop-up window get through. You'll still be able to access requested pop-up windows as normal when surfing. Now if only Mozilla's ad blocking worked as well as its pop-up blocking.

Thanks must have missed that setting as I was browsing Mozilla features. Hate popups, hate intrusive ads.

Try the refresh thing it seems to work here, and your link was still quite informative.

Thanks Fraction, I had forgotten to do that in a long time -I think I just gained back 400 megs!

I also am having the same bitmap prob, didn't have it until a week or so ago. Just figured it was my stupid pc acting up.

Is it me, or does it seem that in some of the pics posted by jayjay88 that Pamela is getting that condition (what the heck is it called again?) where the skin that's supposed to be down against the ribcage between the breasts is actually lifting away from the bone?

When are they gonna remake the movie Monster's Ball with Pamela Anderson playing the part that Billy Bob Thorton played?  That would be a lot more logical than having her take the Halle Barry part, doncha think?
