Wow, ok...so I haven't voted in any of the polls, but judging by the results of the first one no one's really voting realistically. Sure, Depp won the SAG (which was fantastic) and he was really good--I just saw
Pirates for the first time about an hour ago, actually...but anyone who really follows the Oscars knows he has about a snowflake's chance of winning. I'm playing in an Oscar pool here in town, and the choices I made weren't my favorites in every case, aren't always the ones I HOPE will win, but the ones I would (or, in this case, have) put my money on.
- Best Picture: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
- Best Actor: Sean Penn, Mystic River
- Best Actress: Charlize Theron, Monster
- Best Supporting Actor: Tim Robbins, Mystic River...see the movie--this man's earned it.
- Best Supporting Actress: Shoregh Aghdashloo, House of Sand and Fog--popular vote's bootylicious Renee Zellweger, but I think this lady's coming around on the outside.
- Best Director: Clint Eastwood, Mystic River...and he TOTALLY deserves it.
- Best Original Screenplay: Lost in Translation.....though personally I'd really like to see Finding Nemo win
- Best Adapted Screenplay: Mystic River
- Best Animated Film: Finding Nemo...of COURSE.
The pool also does votes on every other category, and a fun on the In Memoriam tribute that's hard to explain...but I won't go into those.
