Not sure about his exclusiveness on this.  To be sure, Dr. Johnson pioneered the technique.

I know a woman who, yes, did go to Houston to get her strings done, but at the time they were done by a French surgeon who had come to the USA to study the procedure.  He made it clear to her that he wouldn't be able to give her long-term care, and she was fine with that.  They stayed in touch for a while via e-mail after he left the USA.

Speaking of which . . .

I've seen the pics of Minka, Melanie, Chelsea, Maxi, etc., and they, obviously, had gotten very large string implants.

Did your wife get (relatively) normal-sized string implants?  If so, does there seem to be less of the distortion you see on the supersized models?

What I mean is, they have, to a greater or lesser extent, some unevenness and sometimes irregularities in how the expansion/growth occurred.

So, if your wife has a more modest enlargement via string, did she wind up with a more regular shape?  Or is there still some unevenness/irregularity due to the string?
