Thanks for the info, guys.   gregw, as I remember, that bit about the decoding, especially the code for Midway, was in the classic movie.  I checked HERE and found that the code for Midway was "AF" (and the word is desalination).  That link leads to an article, almost a book, which tells you EVERYTHING about Midway.  But without you guys to inspire me I would have been too lazy to find it.  Thanks again.

Let me return the favor PE. If you like warships in general, try The Iowa Class Battleships by Malcolm Muir. Bath Press, 1987. Next on my reading list is Sunk By The Bismark by Edwin P. Hoyt. Stein and Day, 1977.

thanks, Ive got the Iowa class..great book.. Will be helpful when i update my tamya model of New Jersey in 1981 (Lebonon) to Wisconcin (Gulf War) 1991... Never heard of this other book you mentioned..cheers PE
