After moving in March, just got my outdoor TV antenna installed (screw you, cable company/satellite service/phone company!) and caught a new episode of 2 Broke Girls.  Kat looks thinner, and sadly, her boobs look smaller.  Her face is quite a bit more angular than before.  Hollywood sucks!

I saw the new Thor movie today. Our girl is easily the best thing about it (which isn't saying much, unless you find the threatened lives in Odin's various realms to be empathetic and dramatically compelling). She has lots of good lines and is very funny. The girls are thoroughly covered up, alas, although you can kind of tell in a sweater scene toward the end.

yeah I saw Thor 2 today and she pretty much stole every scene she was in, she is funny and sexy no doubt but they were showing off more of her funny side than her sexy side for sure.

Maybe you should ask for a refund on your emotional investment.  ;)

I was more annoyed about the fact that Hollywood thinks Charring Cross is three stops from Greenwich. They are not even on the same line!

If you can believe that a Norse god can cross the galaxy (universe?) because a few planets happen to line up, and that local gravity is therefore so affected that cement trucks float (and, if so, completely ignoring the effects on planetary rotation and the earth's orbit, and that resulting tidal forces would tear the planet apart), and that swords and shields co-exist as effect military forces alongside rayguns and spaceships powered by black holes -- and, most importantly, that Thor would choose Natalie over Kat -- then, yes, you can believe that Charing Cross is three stops from Greenwich, and on the same line. :)

Maybe in the Marvel cinematic Universe, there is a London Underground line that goes through Charring Cross and Greenwich. The Asgard line?

I appreciate that it is a fantasy film based on a comic book, but couldn't they have at least got the stuff that was supposed to be set in the real world right? How hard would it have been to film at a Jubilee line station? It's only a short part of the film.

It's just a bad film, and your excellent observation makes it all the more obvious.

Yes they really do need to focus more on factual geography in the marvel universe. Shit I don't even think the DC universe has even looked at a map....sarcasm by the way

Well, it ain't just the Marvel world. A pretty good movie out right now called Last Vegas jumps around and landmarks several miles apart are illogically placed together here in Sin City. Oh well.  ::)

What you guys are talking about is a well-worn cinematic technique called creative geography.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_geography

The examples given in the wikipedia article are mostly practical (transitions between location and soundstage, etc.), but filmmakers have been twisting and collapsing geography (to set a mood, or work around restricted locations) since the origination of movies. The idea is basically to use film editing to create a geography that best serves the storytelling. Yes, it may bug people familiar with the actual locations, but in the hands of a good directer and editor, it's a powerful tool.

You mean, Fred Ott's Sneeze wasn't actually filmed in New Jersey? :)

The wiki entry is interesting, but there are zero citations and, anyway, motion pictures began well before the 1920s. The examples given are pretty mundane. What we're taking about is verisimilitude; taking time to get the details right, so that dramatic license can be excused. For example, the first Star Trek movie had NASA and Jet Propulsion Laboratory experts who helped the production team get most of the astronomy and other scence right, so that the audience can excuse dramatic license. The reboot Star Trek films have virtually no scientific accuracy whatsoever. Most don't mind. Some of us do; it's the difference between science fiction and fantasy.

But we're all getting pretty off-topic here. Maybe we should start a film criticism thread? I'll do so in a day or so if no one else does.

Who sez Marvel's Earth 616 or DC's Earth 1 geography is laid out exactLEE like Earth Prime? :-\ :-X

Then again I figure any movies or TV shows using characters/stories borrowed from the comics take place on Earth-Hollywood. :P
