Hmmm...

I'm thinking of a bouttoniere (whatever you call the flower that a proper gentleman wears in the lapel of his suit) with a concealed fiber optic pickup leading to a hi-res digital camera.

In conversation with a likely subject, you subtly direct her to your fashion accessory. As she leans forward to get a closer look.... *click*

I mean spyware like those mini cams that you can hide in your glasses or a in a ballpoint so nobody knows you take shots. Some people get angry if you try to put them on film.
True Lies film with Schwarzenegger a mini cam in the siggarets.

Or you could just carry a GBA with one of these.

"Does anyone remember Nintendo's Game Boy Camera that was released a few years ago
(around the same time as the Game Boy Color)? It was probably one of the coolest, most underrated peripherals ever released. So, if you never had the pleasure of fiddling with the Game Boy camera, it just so happens that the brainiacs over at Nyko are prepping a new camera for the Game Boy Advance -- the WormCam (named after its popular "Worm" line of accessories). It's set to ship this December.

The WormCam fits snuggly into the GBA and allows the user to take high-resolution ten-bit RGB color photographs, which can then be uploaded to a PC and emailed or stored accordingly. The WormCam can actually hold up to 80 pics at once and features a 180-degree rotatable lens, which makes monitoring the field of view easier when taking pictures of yourself in compromising positions. You'll be able to edit images and add text using the built-in interface on the GBA. Head over to Nyko's site for more details."

Yep, pretend you're playing video games on your GBA and instead use the 180° vertically rotatable digital camera instead.  Would be great for us gamers (only problem is that I don't have a GBA, oh well).  ^_-

I mean, yeah the accessory camera looks pretty damn large, but consider the fact that the GBA is only something like 6" long and could probably be written off as a "lighting module" by someone unknowledgeable of EVERYTHING videogames or tech.

Nahh...

The glasses Tom Cruise had in MI2.  That would be too cool !
Ecspecially if you could get it recorded and have the 3D/stereo vision effect for playback.

I had a Fuji digital years ago.  Same type problem whenever something 'interesting' popped into my field of view.  The dang thing took so long to power up, focus, etc.. The 'subject' was always gone.  Leaving it on, and the batteries died in less than an hour.

And yeah from my experience, the U.S. seems to seriously lag behind in consumer electronic gadgetry.  MP3's, I had them years ago,  got a free cell phone the other day when changing accounts, the thing is like carrying around brick, how did the U.S. totally miss VCD's ? etc...

Oh yeah, back to the original post, big bust sightings,
I love them !!!!!  Thanks Chestnuts !!!!!

The same way we missed DAT cassettes as a cheap way to make digital quality mix tapes (the tracks are even indexed, no more blind fast forwarding and the fact it's digital helps prevent against sound distortion from tape stretch).  The same way we missed stuff like minidiscs as a replacement for cassettes.

BTW, I have a theory that explains why Japan has quite a bit of cool stuff on the consumer market.  Japan doesn't have a true military, just a national guard and they buy their equipment from other nations.  So having a military contractors/research labs in Japan wouldn't make sense.  However, this would leave a heck of a lot of tech researchers free to do non-military things.  So they make really cool things like bi-pidal robots for home use or androids that can mimick facial expressions and create really cool organizers and cellphones.  Oh and cameras that use where your eye is looking to help direct the autofocus.  They also have really cool vending machines (flowers, beer, undergarments, etc—though they have some of that array in the Netherlands in Europe).

Hmmm, I'm not too familiar with the specifics of NTT Docomo, but Sprint PCS just announced today a new plan called PCS Vision.  It allows you to take a picture in color with your cell phone and then send it to another Sprint PCS user with PCS Vision or e-mail it to yourself (maybe even to a friend, but I'm not certain about that).  You can also access the internet and pull up webpages in color and with what looks like to be similar formating to a PowerPC PDA.  Of course, the viewing screen is real small, but it seems to be a nice improvement to text-only wireless web access (which I've tried in the past).

There you go.  There are also a ton of new little accessories for the GBA like a wireless network card (works using the Bluetooth protocol).  So you and your friend could be rigged with 2 GBAs with the camera accessory and if one person misses it, the other one may be able to get it and then swap in the wireless network card (slated for use with multiplayer games, though it can handle this too) and send the file to you friend. ^_^

Yeah, high-tech just keeps getting higher and more like spy-fare.  Maybe our organisers will be more like those in "Lain" or like the PADs in ST:TNG or STV.  I mean, with the idea of highspeed wireless networks being placed everywhere and the idea of "augmented reality" being played around with, we might eventually see some really fun stuff in the small device market in the next 10 years (I don't mean life altering sorts of things, just the ability to have a fair amount of bandwidth over wireless connections and such).  Imagine sitting in a meeting that does not involve any aspect of your expertise what so ever and chatting with friends who are in similar situations while posting to the BEA.

Sorry to be so off topic, it's just that when one watches so much anime and then sees what's coming down the line in reality, one wonders what's next.

Though I think that the "WormCam" put out by Nyko is most likely of better build.
