Silicone vs saline vs "naturalness" (for lack of a better term!)
« on: November 13, 2002, 09:55:46 PM »
Ok, for the most part, from what I've seen and read, it seems that silicone implants look/feel far more natural than saline ones.

Letting the science dork in me out for a bit, I want to know why?

Is silicone gel somehow able to be of varying density whereas saline (as with most liquids) is of a constant density (assuming no changes in temperature of course).

Were the shells of the silicone implants somehow more flexible or stretchable?

Just guessing a bit here in trying to ask my questions, because I note that, for example, Tiffany Towers had a bit more "squish-able" factor to her breasts, and it appears some of the older implants in general do also, but the saline ones tend to be very unnaturally firm for the most part.

Also, take a look at the clip at the site mentioned by beray in  this post.  The woman in these movie clips seems to me to have silicone as well rather than saline.

Can anyone shed light on this issue?

There is an implied assumption in your message that people would prefer a more natural looking implant.  For most women and some men this is of course true but for many addicts the faker looking the better.  I count myself in this category.  Ultra hard and ultra fake a la sofia stacks etc rule. The question that I would like to ask is therefore what is necessary to make em look ultra fake.

So then is it true that silicone are the more natural ones?

When I asked my #1 inspiration/heroine/role model, Theresa Hessler, about her implants, she said that she had her saline implants changed out for "...a little bit bigger (higher profile pear or teardrop shape) silicone implants.  Silicone gel is SO much softer, and they look and feel more natural on my body..."

Hence one choice that I've made for myself: Mine will be silicone, and they will be sub-muscle (even thought they're more painfull, and the healing process is longer, especially for athletic women) pear high profiles.

I still haven't chosen between gel or liquid silicone, so I suppose that starts another tangent of the original question...

Well...

Silicone- Lots more jiggly? Leaky = Baaaaaaad.

Saline- Not so jiggly? Safe!

String(?)- I want 'em?

There's so many choices, even after choosing what kind, there's placement, shape and material used to house the fluid. It's all personal preference.

I got home early, but my wife knows more about this than I do. I don't think she will disagree because we have talked about this exact subject before, that as far as look and feel goes, there is an implant type called the double-lumina (I think I spelled that right) which consists of a silicon bag inside of a saline bag. We have seen just about every feature dancer around today, and a few that are retired, but the few we have seen with this type of implant look and feel the best. Of course, it's just our humble opinion.

Actully...

Silicone- Not so jiggly, Silicone is a denser substance than Saline.  It has a denseness almost equal to fat.  go up to a chubby guy, grab a lovehandle thats what a Silicone implant feels like.  I dated a girl with silicone implants befor, it was hard to tell.  These have a danger of leaking, since silicone isn't "natural", the body reacts badly.

Saline- is waaay more jiggly than Silicone, saline is made up of a salt water solution and is far less dense.  saline implants can act like a water bed, they can ripple, and can sometimes make sloashin noises.  Since saline is salt based, if the implant should leak, the body can absorb it.

String- I however know very little about these.

Wouldn't having them sub-muscle defeat the purpose of getting silicone in the first place? With the muscles in the way, I would think that very little of the "feel" of the implant would get through.

My understanding is that only the upper transition area is actually buried.  It makes for a more natural appearing transition area.  See example.

In my opinion, based on the feeling of some number of implants, the more important thing for naturalness of feel is that the implants with the matte finish are softer than the ones with slick finish.

Ok, well, for the most part, I guess, we can say that silicone tends to look and feel a lot more natural.

Question is: why, exactly, is that the case?

Inquiring minds, up late and somewhat delirious due to cold/flu, want to know.

(by the way, Comtrex doesn't seem to work worth a damn for congestion)

If you play with a silicone implant, the fingers sink in with more ease. Water is heavier. I burst a silicone implant once.  This doctor I didn't use because he told me large implants would make me look like a porn star (that doctor for those of you who read my BE Chronicles), this guy was not a pleasure to be around.
Back to the implants, he left me for nearly 45 min., alone in the consultation room with nothing but one ACME silicone filled implant to play with.
I sat there eyeballing the device and after a while I started poking at it and - curious to test its limits - I dug my fingers into the bag thinking : "These things are indestructible".  Well, not so. Bored as I was,I got progressively rougher until one of my nails won.
The implant took a lot of abuse but when it burst it disintegrated.
Shell and liquid became as one and the tear melted into glue.  The liquid substance inside was like hair repair silicone.  Almost like grease.  Very hard to wash off.  I would not like to have that inside my body just because if I couldn't wash that liquid off my skin, what would it do in large quantities in the body if it can't be eliminated?
Made me think.
After one of my surgeries I had a leaking valve (100cc gone every five days, that's a lot) and I can say that I'm glad it was saline.  It was right after surgery #4 and I was healing.  The doctor wanted me to heal a little before he went back in to change the implant so for a couple of weeks I was going in for a fill to replace the lost fluid. I don't think we could have done that with silicone.
I lost a total of 500cc of saline over two weeks or so.  500cc of indestructible silicone lost inside my body?  Ahhhhhhhh... I don't think so.  But I am not militant against silicone.  The averages used for studies were based upon minute traces.  More information on the subject would be wonderful.

Also, what is the texture of the silicone gel?

As for being hard, overfill makes boobs hard.
(About the silicone implant, I owned up to the dammage and the doctor refused to make me big/ end of that story).

Enjoy your big boobs, saline or silicone!

Interesting comments
I know people which have had silicone, then changed to saline because they found that swimming with silicone implants, the cold temperature of the water causes them to harderned. This made the implant sort sit in your body as a large hard lump, which can be painful.
Saline on the other hand can leak although the newer kinds are better at holding the fluid. But there is a mental stigmitism to being known to have saline implants. That is who wants to be known to have salty titties. Not I and some of my friends found it emotionally too straining so they took them out. Mind you it is a bit better than being called Barbie because you got silicone.
Interesting though when I read the latest Guinness book of records, that the largest natural breasts are Annie Hawkins-Turner from Washington DC in USA. She has tits that  give her a bust of 70" from a 43" under bust size. That means that she wears a 52-I bra. Question is how come noone I know have heard of her or have seen a website.
I am sure there are bigger people out there but may not be regarded as natural because of hormone imbalence etc.
One thing I know is that my DD's are natural and my man and most others love them, and thats good enough for me. I think as soon as people start inserting things into their body to make them bigger, they have to give up something in the process. If it's worth it, good for them, if not they end up finding natural is better. Perhaps a natural medium between the two is hormonial treatment. Apparently there is a drug that reactivates the breast growing hormones and thus the patient grows until they want to stop. Sounds like a better option to implants if you ask me.

Thanks for the replies....

I guess I should've elaborated more:

Quoth Sofia:
Quote:

What I probably should've stated was: knowing that silicone implants are more yielding, what is it about the properties of silicone that make it thus?

Yes, this is my inner science-geek coming out and making a nuisance of himself!

I was theorizing that maybe the gel form of silicone has, rather than a fixed-density of normal liquids, a variable density.  However, it's been WAY too long since chemistry class, and I can't remember what the specifics were about gel/gelatin in general (other than knowing that they were bizarre with properties that were unlike most solids and liquids).

I heartily agree.  Do you have more information on this?  Links, stuides, whatever?

Thanks!
