Enterprise nc1701 A had an auxilary bridge (its called engieering) you could also run the ship from the tactical command station.
B had a comand deck and little else. and was built almost excluseively for war.
C (never shown in the series or movies) had a full CIC in the neck of the ship)
D had the battle bridge also in the neck of the ship. (and the D class enterprise could also be run from engeering when nessasary) ALSO the D class ship was more for exploration, almost like scientific cruise ship. as they were generaly at peace with most of the known galaxy. (borg and romulans beign the exceptions as well as various random enemies of the week)
E has a very similar setup to the D class (upgrades in sheilds quantum torpedos ect and was designed to correct several flaws in the D design)

The Enterprise NCC-1701C (Ambassador class) was shown in the Next Generation episode 'Yesterday's Enterprise'

Firstly, I do firmly believe that Starfleet is an exploratory and diplomatic body and secondly, I don't think the Enterprise has a stupid bridge as it is just perfect for its crew to have sex on. :D

Seriously, if Sulu ever misjudges the top of the doorjamb in spacedock,

Sulu never misjudges.

Second question: Why does the Enterprise have just a bridge? All modern naval vessels have this neat room called the Combat Information Center (CIC), where all important command decisions are made.

Civilians are not allowed on the CIC Deck.

With regard to your first question, Pedonbio, to which homophobic rules do you refer?

To get back on topic, it's a fact that the representatives of the U.S. Navy asked to tour the 1960s bridge set, studied it, and even asked for its blueprints -- which were happily provided. They recognized that a lot of ergonomic thought went into it (even moreso later, in the movies). The idea was to have information available to all, merely by looking over, and especially to the commander.

Ah!
Another example of science fiction becoming science fact! :D

Originally the ban on all gays from military services; after 1994, and until 2012, the prohibition against acknowledging sexual orientation.

I see.
Can't remember until when homosexuality was an issue for the Dutch armed forces.
Perhaps until 1974 when homosexuality was removed from the DSM as a psychological/mental disorder.
