Spinal compression...hilarity ensues.
« on: January 26, 2008, 07:42:27 PM »
So I have a shooting pain all over my  lower back, legs, behind, and yes, my family jewels.

First I see a urologist, then a doctor who specializes sports injuries.

 I have a compression in my L5 and S1 vertebrae...the fun part?

-six weeks of PT
-I can't sit down longer than 15-20 minutes
-If I watch porn...I pay for it with burning pain.

Oh yeah and I have to spend the majority of the day in bed and stare at a ceiling.

 Lessons learned:

Lift with your legs more
Don't let a stomach injury move your power to your back
Buy a better mattress
Get a better office chair
Don't beat off with a back injury...like, ever.

J- Guess I'll stick to off-topic for now
I will remove the stick out of the world's ass.

First claim, of course, to chipmunk and to squirrel for bleak mid-Winter sustenance belongs, as all around old leaves descend and twirl about, through feathered autumn songs.

Damn! Back injuries truly are a bitch. I hope you're on the mend in a hurry.

L5/S1 - That's at the base of the spine. Not fun. Not fun at all.

Those are good lessons to learn but thats a damn hard way to be reminded.

PT can be a drag, but it's good for your back.

Sincerely hope all goes well.

Then that would fall under the 'get someone else to do the heavy lifting or just don't move it' category.

Steroid Injections into the area will get rid of the pain within 1-2 days.  My GF has had 3 over the last year and each time it worked great!

THEN you need to work out!  Make your core stronger...  Spanking does not count!

Oh!  Working out also means getting a VERY experienced Trainer to teach you SAFE methods of exercise so you do not further hurt yourself.  3-5 sessions should do it for basic training and some follow up to watch you.  They should create a log book and draw stick figures to show movements and notes so you can follow them for ever.

Go to several Gyms and interview trainers.
Thanks! :-)

UPDATE:

I have several muscle problems which created this situation, thankfully physical therapy is solving ALL of them. Nothing major, but the muscles affected are just in key points.

J- and silent bob. (I still can't believe I've made so many posts and not thought of that before.)

I had a navel hernia and surgery to correct it. I have two shot disks in my lower back. The ONLY thing that has given me any relief at all is my inversion table. I paid $180 at Sam's for it and after 15 minutes I can wlak without pain at all.

I used to have back pain, and after I got hit by a truck while riding my bike, I eventually switch over to a recumbent bike and I haven't had a sore ride yet.

I studied architecture for 3 years, and I was surprise when I went into a furniture making factory and learn that all furniture in the mainstream market are made for overweight people in America. 40 pound over weight was the average. You almost have to insert a back pad onto every office chair. I learn my lesson, the first office chair I bought was on sale very cheap ($45) actually gave me 2 bruises on my cheek. I went back and bought the $250 chair.
