I agree with both you and Glottis... those images have been so aggressively processed (retouched, filtered, etc...) that it looks like more than half the pixels it contains didn't 'come from' the original (camera) image. I understand the perceived need for such heavy-handed work (especially in mainstream media) but it's over-the-top IMO... I've basically lost all interest in content from certain websites due mainly to their dedication to ridiculous over-processing of photos... like you said, they're more illustration than photo.

If I want illustrations, I'll look at illustrations. When I look at a photo, I'd like to think that most of it (at least) bears some relationship with the reality being photographed.
