HAPPY TIMES!Christian Liden was a "rockhound" (rock collector) from an early age. When he was in the eighth grade, he made a vow that when he decided to get married, his engagement ring would be one where he collected all the materials himself - the gold
and the stones.
Over the years, the Poulsbo WA resident managed to pan enough gold flakes to make a suitable ring. He also met Desirae Klokkevold. After five years of being together, and talking marriage, it was time for Christian to take the next step.
Telling Desirae he was going on a camping trip to Yellowstone with his friend, he and his buddy Josh instead went to Montana to find a few small sapphires. Then it was on to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, the only place in the US (and one of the few in the world) where the public can hunt for diamonds.
After three days of digging and poking and sifting, Christian spotted a 2.2 carat yellow diamond! Only about 1 in 10,000 visitors are lucky enough to find a diamond of more than one carat, according to the park.
When he got back to Poulsbo, he and Desirae went on a mushroom hunting trip. He told her where he really went, and popped The Question - showing her the diamond he found.
Naturally, she said yes.
