Cristine Slawik from Germany is one of the top ten equine photographers in the world. She's been at it for 40 years. She does mostly un-staged photos of wild and domesticated horses. It really is impressive and very sentimental/emotional work and there is so much. Do check out her work.

Cold Weather Operations Course (CWOC) at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, prepares Army personnel for extreme cold operations and one of the things you have to learn is how to survive in very cold water. Back in 1986, I was Temporary Duty in Adak, Alaska, an island in the Aleutians archipelago and we were warned that if we fell into the water, you have two minutes to get out or you will die. Needless to say, none of that polar bear swim for me.

I don't live in a country with extreme cold - but having swam in springtime sea water, I can tell you it literally takes your breath away when the water is cold.
