I first crossed his path about fifteen years ago, when alt.binaries.pinups was a veritable jungle of great porn. It was a world dominated by a few titans: Sleepy, RG, Artinc, Snowman: the early scanners and posters. We worked with steam-driven scanners, hooked to the 'Net by tenuous threads which linked one cave to the next, and all kept in some kind of primal order by Moe Fine. JJ and I were there, trying to avoid being stepped on by the thunder-lizards, both using different names than we use now.
Mostly we swapped pictures. But among us lowly creatures on the jungle floor, there was Phoofy. He rarely scanned more than four or five pictures a night, and he had huge byte-counts: 80K, 90K; sometimes more than 100K. He was often criticized for his huge byte-counts; these were, after all, the days of dial-up and the 28K modem. But, he said, someday we will appreciate higher-rez pics. Someday, he said, we will post pictures larger than 200K. Someday, he said, waving his hand above the campfire, staring off into the night; someday, there will be a thing called "broadband".
Not only were his pictures of higher resolution; almost all were original. This man has a huge stash of published and maybe-not published porn.
He is, in the words of gOOber, "A God Among Men".

I've known Phoofy for a good many years now. He works out of the Big Apple, constantly foraging around for old magazines. For years he dug up the older mags, say from the 1950s and 1960s primarily. But of late he's moved on up into the 70s and 80s material. When he finds a good mag, he pounces, takes his new acquisition back home to his trusty scanner and produces some of the most beautiful pictures ever seen. He posts 'em about five at a time. In keeping with his style, he never reposts a picture, usually only gives the models first name and never but never floods any of his old or new stuff. It's steady as she goes with Phoofy.
Larry Fine looked over the group at alt.binaries.pinups until recently. When he took a retirement, he was missed and the group suffered a letdown.
Unfortunately Russian criminals have decided to target the group for huge daily dollops of spam. Two years ago, with the help of an American journalist in D.C., the dreaded McColo Corporation in California was taken down. It had been the center of some 75% or more of American spam in emails, on the Internet and in Usenet. Peace and quiet prevailed on the Western Front for many months, about six to be exact. Then slowly, the thugs behind the old Iron Curtain got their bot act back together and now even higher levels of daily spam are aimed at us by these dirty dogs. There must be a hell of a lot of money in posting worthless pictures of skinny, ugly Russian teenagers supposedly bathing and cavorting in make believe places such as Monte Clare Island and Brevo Beach Resort (to make up two). Once they get a dimwitted male to give them his credit card number, it's all over.
