Sorry I haven't been around in awhile, everyone...on July 15th (6 days after my 28th birthday) I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I had two malignant nodules that grew aggressively from 1mm to 3mm within a year. They have been removed (as of August 31st) successfully. As of today, I have been completely hypothyroid for 4 days (gotta be this way for two weeks, omg I feel sh!tty...) waiting for the radiation pill that will literally make me glow in the dark. I will be in quarantine for 3 days after that. Any comments, questions, or words of encouragement are welcomed but not expected.

I'm going through cancer treatment right now as well.  There's nothing glamorous about it.... but there's comfort in taking advantage of some great medical advances available these days.

Wish you best of luck. Luckily I do not suffer from cancer but my thyroid gland is pretty useless so everyday I take Levoxyl ( generic ) to maintain proper level. You are so young to have cancer but the advantage is that you are stronger so your recovery will be better. My 80 year old mother has lung cancer but she is taking the chemo quite well considering her age. My mother has a positive attitude and she is a good trooper and isn't complaining about it. I'm glad that you have advised us of your situation and I wish Godspeed to you.

rubbing vitamin E on it can really help the scar heal

I also went through treatment about a year ago, chemo, no radiation.  The best thing I can advise is also the positive attitude!  It won't be fun, but do the best you can!  I've read thyroid cancer has a high cure rate, so think about the best outcome!  I was the same age as you when I was diagnosed with testicular cancer.  Hang in there!  Thoughts and prayers are with you!!!

@espy - I read your post about it...I'm so sorry How is treatment going? Are you getting to relax any? I hope all is well considering the current situation...If you need anything, please don't hesitate to message me, and thank you for your kind words 

@solvegas - Thank you so much for the words of encouragement...I mean it! I'm sorry to hear about your mom...is this new or has she had it for awhile? And like my grandmother always used to say, "everything happens for a reason" and I truly believe that. I have been guilty of complaining 2 times though...they were in the beginning when [first] hit hit me really hard. But other than that, I make sure I laugh every day and have fun with my family and friends

@Palomine - I appreciate what you wrote It has been relatively comfortable so far...no complaints here

@rtpoe - I beat you to the punch LOL! My scenario was that someone asks me what the scar is from and then I tell 'em I got in a knife fight. While they're busy looking at me like I have 5 heads, I will explain that the other person came out FAR worse. HA! I love Love LOVE your explanations though! Clumsy vampire?! OMG I'm really laughing out loud right now! You rock

@SwitcherX - Do you know a good high potent brand of vitamin e cream? I usually just buy the liqui-gels (that you're supposed to ingest) break 'em open and apply...but you're right, it works very well Thanks for the tip!

@mcgarp - I'm sorry to hear about your cancer as well...how is everything now? And you're right, thyroid cancer's survival rate is at 96% so that definitely comforts me.

My friend that told me about it used to just buy vitamin E capsules and cut them open with a razor blade.

When you're at the hospital, can you ask a dermatologist?

At 28, I assume this is your first big health shock for you! Know that we all will someday reach into the bucket of life and will have to deal with them, and earn battle scar for bravery. Also know that like cold water temper the steel fresh from the oven forge to be even stronger, so will you! Perhaps another Lance Armstrong in the making. Arm yourself and come back fierce! I hope your recovery is fortifying you to be the best you can be and enjoying life to the max. I am going to take it that thyroid cancer is very treatable with high success rate, and pray that it is so with you.

My mother's cancer was discovered by accident. She suffered a stroke on 1/1/2000, which left her right side useless and unable to speak. She is wheelchair bound but otherwise in good physical shape. I could not bear the thought of her in a old folks warehouse so I made her my dependant and modified my house for wheelchair use and she has her own room. Anyways, last year she reached out with her good hand to reach for a towel and somehow she managed to fall of her wheelchair ( I don't monitor her constantly. She is a proud woman and likes the small amount of privacy I give her. Since she can't tell me how she fell out of the chair, I can only guess ) in which she gashed her forehead. Since all head blows should be taken seriously and due to her age, I rushed her to the hospital. They did a full body CAT scan and found a growth in her left lung right by the ribs. Otherwise, the head wound was solved with six stiches. She use to smoke like a chimney but 25 years ago she quit cold turkey. The oncologist said it may or may have not contributated to the cancer. Radiation and surgery were out so she gets chemo once every three weeks since the cancer was very small to begin with. She's as bald as a cueball but I got her a wig which mimics the style and color she had back in the 70's and she likes it. Like I said in my prior entry, she is a good trooper. She is a West Texas gal of german stock and those people are not for emotional outbursts or bellyachin'. Life is life and there is no sense in moaning about that you can't fix.
