It's screen is less than 10 inches.  In 28 days do they announce the MaxiPad?   ;D

I wish I could feign impartiality, but I have an irrational dislike for all things Apple. Which is unfair because they've made some good products, supposedly have great customer service, and their creativity software is second to none in their field. Perhaps it's how shoddily-made much of their hardware has been over the years. Perhaps it's the segment of their cult/hardcore following who buy Apple as a means of denoting social status (iPeen) and couldn't tell their ass from a hole in the ground in real computer land. More likely it's because for 30 years they've charged double the price for the same technology found in any PC (which is particularly egregious ever since they've been using the same chip sets that every other computer uses) and I'm cheap. :) All that said, I don't begrudge any particular Mac/iPod/iPhone/iWhatever user. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

With that huge conditional statement out there, the thing looks like a cross between a netbook and a touch-screen Etch-a-Sketch to me. Good luck with your Newton Mach 2, folks. I personally don't see the purpose.

And yes... the iPad is a silly name.

We've got a technical assessment thread of the Apple iPad on the "Computer Tech & Help Info" forum...but as for the ridiculous name for this product which obviously did not go through an internal review by the female members of staff, that was pilloried back in 2006 by MADtv:

YouTube: "MADtv: iPad"
AOC, HC, TW, BO, KH: FU. FUATH. 100x.

It's unfortunately exactly what I thought it would be. An over-sized and over-priced iPod Touch with optional 3G. I was really hoping for an actual tablet laptop powered by a Core 2 Duo or newer "full power laptop" processor.
And the name iPad is insane! Do they not have any women working at Apple to catch this kind of joke?

Remember those "Apple vs. PC" commercials? I gather that they still run in California, but they were pulled elsewhere because most people identify with the PC Guy, rather than the snotty-always-gets-the-girl Apple twit.

I don't know if that's 'why' they were pulled... the campaign had run a long time and based on how much pop culture press/coverage it got (along with strong Mac sales, even in this age of iPod and iPhone) it's probably regarded as being *very* successful. I also don't know that folks 'identify' with the PC Guy... though to be sure 9 out of 10 people watching the commercial are already Windows users, so I suppose it's possible. The fact is that John Hodgeman is just very funny... and I'm sure he was cast for that exact quality. If they wanted to make the PC guy unsympathetic, they'd probably have cast someone else.

Several other companies Internationally already use the name I-pad.

Japan (2) - a scanner for merchandise barcodes for inventory purposes, and a company that makes high-tech adult diapers.
Sweden - a small block engine

There were others listed in a yahoo news article but I forget what they were and cannot find the article right now to add it in.

IN the article it sadi that thinking of the name I-pad was not that hard or creative  (really?)

I've wanted to punch Justin Long in the face ever since he made out with Lindsay Lohan in Herbie Fully Loaded.
