Hmm, I had a similar problem once in the Pink Clothing thread. I was debating whether or not to post a picture of a girl in a Pink towel.
Now, since towels are not considered an item of clothing, I decided that it probably should not be posted, but you can WEAR a towel so I decided to do a quick analysis.
It all depends on whether towels fall into MAINSTREAM clothing, or lie outwith the mainstream. Now I would suggest that MAINSTREAM clothing would more than likely consist of shirts, bras, skirts, shorts etc. I'm not sure towels can be considered mainstream. Then again even of a towel were to be considered mainstream, towels come in all different sizes, so what SIZE of towel would then be considered mainstream? Bath towel, hand towel, bath sheet?
So, I think that a quick look of internet statistics is advisable.
Looking at google and how many results they are for each clothing item.
Shirts - 216,000,000 (FAMOUS CLOTHING)
Shorts - 99,400,000 (MAINSTREAM CLOTHING)
Socks - 67,600,000 (MAINSTREAM CLOTHING)
Skirts - 47,300,000 (MAINSTREAM CLOTHING)
Bras - 31,400,000 (MAINSTREAM CLOTHING)
Then we look at towels
Towels (total) - 31,100,000
Then sub-categorising towels
Bath Sheet - 27,400,000 (MAINSTREAM CLOTHING)?
Hand Towel - 17,900,000 (RELATIVELY UNKNOWN)
Bath Towel - 15,300,000 (RELATIVELY UNKNOWN)
So we can see that towels have a similar figure to bras, so towels in general may be considered mainstream clothing, but if the girl in question is wearing a hand towel, then as a relatively unknown piece of clothing I should have to opt against it.
The consideration of the sub-sets of towels and clothing does show the relative ranking however the topic point is "clothing" with the modifier of "pink" thus the base line of determining should first be set by the hits for "clothing" which established the base at:
Clothing - 319,000,000 (MAINSTREAM BENCHMARK)
Thus all other degrees of clothing now rank out at:
Shirts - 67.7% (FAMOUS CLOTHING)
Shorts - 31.1% (MAINSTREAM CLOTHING)
Socks - 21.2% (MAINSTREAM CLOTHING)
Skirts - 14.8% (MAINSTREAM CLOTHING)
Bras - 9.8% (CLOTHING AT LESS THAN 1 IN 10)
Then we look at towels
Towels (total) - 9.7% (SLIGHTLY KNOWN)
Then sub-categorising towels
Bath Sheet - 8.6% (SLIGHTLY KNOWN)
Hand Towel - 5.6% (RELATIVELY UNKNOWN)
Bath Towel - 4.8% (RELATIVELY UNKNOWN AT LESS THAN 1 IN 20)
The establishing of a baseline is key as all the subsets related back to it. PEOPLE to PERSON, CLOTHING to GARMENT, GENERAL to SPECIFIC.
Therefor from the review I would agree that [pink] towels
would just qualify for inclusion although being below bras yet above any one specific towel type seeing as towel is the general term for the sub-sets.
