I like these black and white photos. Reminds when I first started to look at girly magazines way back in the early 70's and most of the photos were in black and white. Fling, Gent, Cavalier, etc, etc were made of cheap paper, bad printing and photos weren't always very good but when you are a pimply kid who is experiencing the joys of forbidden fruit it was a wow moment.  :)

I just want to add my voice to sol's; I love this thread partly because it reminds me of times past, but mostly because photographers who work in black & white now seem to have a greater appreciation of beauty for its own sake. I'm sorry I haven't contributed to this thread yet, but I really do appreciate the art involved.
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

The thing to remember is that black and white photography requires completely different techniques.

You can't just take a color photo and convert it to grayscale...

I remember watching a programme on Channel 4 in the UK about the 100 best ever adverts. One of which was a modern advert for beer which was filmed in black and white. Chas and Dave did the song for it. Anyway, the point is, apparently they got a dude who worked on the British classic movie 'The Third Man' to do the lighting. However, the director thought it looked awful, shadows everywhere. But, once it had been filmed, the director had to concede that it looked amazing. Similar thing I think. The lighting for black and white photography is totally different (I imagine) to that of colour photography.

It should be, yes.  That pic you just posted looks like a color shot turned b&w, to me, though.
