Local isn't going to work for me anyway. My husband is military- and I go where he goes. So basically, whilst I am in Okinawa right now, early next year we'll be in America, then a few years after that... who knows? =p

I was single so there was no possibility of cooking for myself when I was there. I'm sure you two make much better food than the chowhall. Man, there so many awesome things to do there. I do miss that place. Especially Hokka Hokka Tei. SUCH good food.

Sukoshi means "a little bit" in Japanese.

I checked and you can google it to find locations. There was one right outside the north gate on Kinser that was walking distance from the base They have this dish that's essentially chicken nuggets but cooked in a wok and served with a lemon pepper sauce. SO GOOD!

Last time I was in Okinawa I remember going to this little restaurant not far from the Marine base which had some truly good dishes. I wish I could remember the name.  I was never longer than three days the two times I pulled up to Okinawa since Yokosuka was usually, well always in Japan really, where we submariners would go. I do remember the galley on the Marine base and  it was .... interesting. Jarheads seem to get pleasure of serving swill.

There are 12 Marine bases on Okinawa. Could you narrow it down a bit? North or south or a name maybe?

I don't remember. It has been 23 years since I've been there and I spent most of the time on both occasions I was there on the boat repairing equipment ( I was Machinist Mate in the Navy ) so I'll have to say my knowledge of Okinawa is very limited.

If you were on the ship then you were at the only Naval port which is on the North end of the island, close to Hansen Marine Base.
