I agree with all the adult posts here--People are individuals, we are all the product of our lives, etc., etc.--but questions like this always bring out my reflective side. Like, NT, are you asking about life in those countries, or are you asking about emigrants from those countries? I have never been to any of those countries, let alone submerging into the culture; I have met women from all of them and known them more or less well. But they are not women of those countries, but the women who would emigrate from those countries.
I am an American. That means I am the offspring of immigrants. Every immigrant is also an emigrant. Some years ago, when folks in the mental health industry were trying to rationalize their diagnostic standards, it began to appear that some mental health issues had wildly different frequencies in different countries. For example, a "disorder" called Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder was identified much more commonly among Americans than Europeans. This led some people to claim that the "disorder" did not really exist. But how does the "disorder" manifest itself? The "sufferer" has a short attention span, an aversion to routine, and gets into trouble when s/he says, "This is fucking boring. I'm outta here."
Now, on which side of the Atlantic would you expect to find more of these people?
