For a while now there has been an interesting art mash-up process wherein three typically related cartoon or fictional characters are combined in a hybrid AB, AC, BC manner and then those variations are combined into a unified mix.
As an artistic exercise it is very cool to see how some artists envision the combinations. Not only do some really think about what that combination would entail but just the mix results in some unique characters.

Patchwork Mash-Ups -
the combined characters have elements of the two contributors in an uneven and haphazard amalgam, commonly taking just the coolest aspects such as special powers, weapons or insignia and gluing them together Frankenstein fashion to make a character that retains full aspects of the other two. Not so much a hybrid as cut and paste.Blended Art -
the combined characters are drawn approximately half-way between the two but not necessarily a logical working hybrid. Clothing may sit oddly between pants and skirt, hair may be part pony tail and still long, a weapon may be stuck between sword and gun. Although they may not be as functional as the "parents" they at least look organic - much like a mule is a hybrid to a donkey and horse.True Hybrids -
the combined character appears as a viable individual. There has been a true attempt to realize what a combination would actually create, the outfits, weapons and even powers are a true blend often not as potent as the contributing originals. Yet, even though a distinct image, the "parents" are obvious. Many times the final center hybrid reads as a believable mix.Unfortunately the true hybrids are rare
Because this is the BEA I want to point out that several of the boob size hybrids are totally off. The worst are of course the patchworks. Invariably strapping on the larger bust of the two parents even if they are an A-cup and DD-cup. There are some where the offspring sports an F-cup! Where did that come from?
Other "errors" involve obviously dominate characteristics such as hair and eye color. An even mixing of a blond and brunette does not yield a blond. Major body proportions do not come out of nowhere. Also - in cases with variations in organs such as cat ears vs. human ears the hybrid does not magically gain both! Also - if one parent has 4 arms or 8 tentacles or two heads and the other parent is a normal human the combination will not retain 4 or 8 complete working appendages and if they do then it is not a balanced blending.
One very technical mistake that I saw many people commit was not following the
basic mixing criteria. The center character is supposed to be a blend of the hybrids and not as many misunderstand a hybrid of the originals. The center character is a hybrid of hybrids.
In other words the center image is not A+B+C but rather AB+AC+BC which is a totally different combination. Just in quick review I would have to say that about 3 out of 4 artists made that mistake. There are even some where all the hybrids obviously lack a characteristic the the center character is exhibiting.
But one should not expect realistic genetic hybridization in what is supposed to be a fanciful art study.
I would also like to add that acquired attributes such as tattoos, scars, make-up and the like are not part of genetics and would not transfer.
