So I have still never sat through The Outlaw, mostly because I have a poor attention span and would only be waiting to see some titty.

I did recently see the Scorsese biopic of Howard Hughes called The Aviator, and in that film they refer to The Outlaw as a "movie solely about tits".

Do you think that The Outlaw is worth sitting through, or have I pretty much seen it already if I have seen the famous film frames already?

Brings back memories of disappointment, bignatslover. During the late 1960s and 1970s a lot of famous old movies got shown on late-night tv, and I wasted a couple of hours watching it. The "all about the tits" remark was meant as: Lousy screenplay, wooden acting, so there was no reason to watch it besides Jane Russell's tits, and there's damn little of that.

Remember, it was made in the heyday of the Hayes Office when producers voluntarily submitted films for censorship.
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

I tried to watch it when it was shown on one of the cable networks (HBO, Showtime or Starz) and it only proved that Howard Hughes was a lousy director.

I often wondered how it would have looked if Alfred Hitchcock would have directed it?

Or even Martin Scorsese?

Yeah that pretty much sums up the movie. The only thing it had going for it was Howard Hughes voyeuristic ogling with the camera of Jane Russell's cleavage in many of the scenes that sparked a huge controversy under the Hays code that kept the film sitting on the shelf for several years. Once it was finally released in '46 it became a box office hit but many move viewers wondered what the hell all the fuss was about. :-\

A better movie to see Jane in is "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" in which she co-starred with Marilyn Monroe. The two play some flashy showgirls (great 50's eye-candy) in it while they try to land and marry some rich guys. The ladies also became fast friends while filming it. It's a shame that they were never able to do another film together. :(

It's also a very funny movie. A movie where Marilyn Monroe is very sexy and very, very funny is " Some like it hot " with Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. I also remember back in the 70's Jane Russell selling 18 hour bras. The joke, of course, was that after 18 hours the bras would break after holding those jugs.  ;D

Oh, solvegas, your post reminded me of those commercials! I didn't know many women in the '70s who wore bras.

I liked The Paleface with Jane Russell and Bob Hope. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is good too. The Diamonds song is iconic for Marilyn but I think the reprise where Jane sings it is better.
