TNG was a great series that got better with each season.

Anyhoo, some of it is a blur, and I was trying to remember.  Is there an easy way to describe the attack known as The Picard Maneuver?

And when did Riker command Data to make up a defense against it?  And was Data successful?

The Picard Maneuver was a desperation maneuver where the USS Stargazer Picards first command, falling under attack from an unknown ship was accelerated to warp 9 and covered a very short distance to attack a Ferengi Marauder (then an unkown ship type).  As the distance covered was very short the Stargazer appeared to be in 2 places a one time due to it moveing faster than light.

Datas Defense only worked because they (Data and Riker) basically knew where the Stargazer was going to end up on it's attack run and they were able to confine it's field of fire useing the Enterprise's stronger tractor beam.

TNG did get better every season, but the last one contained some real clinkers. Like Wesley meeting the space Navajo and evolving into a higher plane of existance. Also NOT a fan of "Masks."

Yeah, ST:TNG had a number of episodes that made me go "Wha...?" because they were soooooo bad.

Season one was pretty poor, apart from a couple of decent episodes. If that had been made today, it would have been cancelled after one season. Remember the episode where Wesley was to be put to death because he fell into a flowerbed?

Many of the first season scripts were recycled from "Star Trek: Phase Two," a series that nearly went into production, featuring most of the original 1960s cast. (Before any of the movies.) I agree that it isn't good TNG. But it is very interesting to see the TNG cast saying lines meant for the original cast, and to a degree merging characterizations.

A lot of "Phase Two" carried over into "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," too, and then into TNG. For example, Phase Two Decker became Motion Picture Decker, then Ryker. Ilia became Troi. A Phase Two substitute Spock became Data. And many, many of the Phase Two sets became TNG sets.

Ahem. I'm even more a Trek geek than a boob fan. Don't let me get started.

The Picard Maneuver was also designed to take into consideration that the Ferengi ship at the time was using speed of light level sensors.  (IE) Quick jump to a location where the enemy will receive the data on where you were and where you are at the same time.

At first, I hated TNG, because the pilot, "Encounter at Farpoint" was so bad.  But due to actually sitting down with my folks, the next episode I sat thru was "Yesterday's Enterprise", where the alternate universe of a war with the Klingons, but it was only an excuse to bring back Denise Crosby, to make a new role of her for the 'Sela' character (whom I think should have been the villain in "Nemesis" instead of a Picard-clone).  Then, I thought the show was fairly good.

A couple episodes later, "Best of Both Worlds" aired.  By far, the best season cliffhanger ever made (at the time).  I was hooked until the series ended.  The only episodes I have on DVD are the "Borg Fan Collective", of 10 episodes from TNG, Voyager, and one from 'Enterprise' (which sucked), relating to the Borg.

Turns out I jumped the gun a bit. The show will premiere on January 23, 2020. And they've already greenlit Season 2!
