Show us your cool or rare stuff
« on: November 13, 2015, 02:09:48 AM »
Got the idea for this thread from the "show us your face, you coward" thread.
Got something cool or rare.Take a picture or video of it and post it.
These are the oldest coins that I have.A 1942 and a 1953 Canadian penny.I put them on top of a Score mag in case someone thinks I took the picture of the coins from the internet.

A bit of very rare Hawkwind merchandise. The shield was a ltd. run of 500 when the album Undisclosed Files Addendum was released. The 2 metal plates are in runs of 200 each, made by a fan & sold via the bands unofficial fan page. I've got a fair amount of rare vinyl as well but I thought these would be of more interest to those of you that may like the band.

I had one way back then. I did use it but for me fishing is more about **94** beers with your buddies than actually catching any fish. Lost it years ago. My baby brother still has his though but he hasn't gone fishing in like forever. He was big into fishing back then and he actually caught some fish with it but, alas, time marches on and your priorities change. He got married and she thought fishing was a big bore. Then the rug rats came along and he got out of the habit. He has a bunch of rods and reels in the garage but they are just collecting dust now. How time flies.  :(

My Score dvd collection.
Most of these are DVDs that I got free with the magazine.
I have around 30 others that I was too lazy to dig out that I actually paid for.
There are some Bootylicious ones in here.

When I was a k1d, I collected almost everything that I found interesting: gems/minerals/fossils, stamps/coins, trading cards (even baseball cards though I wasn't particularly a fan of the sport), comics/magazines, Matchbox/Corgi/Tonka toy cars, license plates, leather-bound special edition books, etc... etc... etc... I found a lot of stuff interesting and I just had that chromosome that enjoys the collecting/sorting/organizing of things and I probably always will.

However, as an adult, I "collect" almost nothing... well, nothing that can't be stored on a hard drive (music/video) which is probably for the best, since ongoing decades of collecting physical items (even small ones) can demand lots of storage. ;) Despite a huge purge, I still have many hundreds of books, and I probably own more well-used tools than 4 out of 5 other handy guys do. I also tend to save usable materials for projects and repairs: lumber/plywood, masonry, glass/plastic, metal, computer parts, etc... I don't think of those as collections in the classic sense: my books, tools and materials are sort of organized, but that's more about being able to find something when I need it and not about pleasure derived from getting/keeping things sorted.

I still have some of my chi1dhood collections packed away in boxes, while others have been sold: long ago I got rid of my license plates, leather-bound editions and I sold off all of my comics a few years ago (mostly silver age stuff). While I'm occasionally a bit nostalgic for this or that, I don't particularly pine for any of it.

I'd have included a photo of my bookshelves, workshop or garage, but I don't feel like being real-life recognized as a result, which has already happened once here. So you'll just have to use your imagination. ;)

PS: as of my next post, I am going to temporarily suspend my many-years-long habit of using yellow post text based on some comments about readability (or the lack thereof) since the forum backgrounds have changed from blue to light grey. If/when Dr. Fashizzle's "BEA Throwback" theme ever becomes available to users, I'll resume my preferred yellow text habit. I'm already nostalgic for it. :(

I'm glad someone else does this.  I'm getting like my father and have jars of screws and nails, some used starting to clutter up the place.

Old credit cards are handy for that quick glue or wall filler job.  I have loads of cards in waiting.

I use used (washed) old microwave meal cartons to re-use in the microwave - have lots of them.

And, I'm a little ashamed to say - I have a huge collection of Pot-Noddle pots for storing thing in. I did chuck quite a few away recently in a purge.
