I probably should've thought of this sooner, but of course the forum upgrade overwrote the extra file types we added as allowable extensions (video/music/etc...). ShallowHal mentioned he'd been having trouble ULing a mov file (which has been done before many times) so of course, it was the overwrite. Fixed now.

Yeah, it looks as if session cookies expire after 15 minutes on inactivity, instead of staying live for 24 hours (or longer?) as they did before.

Is there some kind of automatic avatar that is assigned to users that don't have one?
There are several different users that have this same guy in a hat avatar that is posted below.
It's a little annoying because I can't see a user's name in a post unless you click on their profile.Every time I click on this avatar it is a different user.

Yes, that's the avatar that's automatically displayed for users who don't have avatars. Previously, the "no avatar" image was a white question mark on a blue background.

The 'bug' isn't the image we display, it's the absence of usernames on the mobile version of the site. –gonZo

Using the search tool:

Also (not a bug per se) you get the red-box "wait 5 seconds" warning if you search and then do another search right afterwards... which is to be expected given the less-than-great nature of search (seems no less impaired than last time). This warning could/should be turned off: we didn't need it before and probably don't need it now.

Using the search tool:

Noted: functionally, the search tool seems little improved from how it worked before, which is odd considering how much time passed between the old version of the forum software and the current/new one. Honestly, it seems to pale in comparison to the way search works at other websites, though (for all I know) it has something do do with the database here rather than the tool itself. I do see that when you use it now and click on a result (it really helps even more to narrow your search to a specific sub-forum if you can... even moreso than before the upgrade) you are almost always sent to a post in the thread that is OLD: many posts and/or pages BACK from the current/latest post in that thread. That's a bit of a PITA, since (if you're just trying to locate the thread to append to it... probably the most common use for search) you usually want to see what's most recent in the thread as a whole, so you must click to load the latest page. Not the biggest deal ITW, but it does mean loading a whole page of posts and attachment stamps (usually the page is from so long ago that it's not cached anymore) which is a waste of site bandwidth. IIRC, the old tool usually dropped you there, at the latest page, which was better.

Added later: I THINK that search might be providing the link to the OLDest post in a thread, even though there's nothing about the oldest post usually that makes it a better match that the newest post.  :-\

Text editing in posts:

When editing the text of an existing post, it seems hard to tell when you've also selected a carriage return/blank line in the body text, so you must select text and then manually backspace to remove blank lines to be sure. Maybe not a bug, but also a bit of a PITA.

Forum stats:

Like a lot of other settings, the Most users online at one time number got re-written/over during the upgrade. ATM, it now reads "Most Online Today: 144. Most Online Ever: 193 (January 07, 2016, 03:52:33 PM)" but we all recall that the most online at once was in the 370s some years ago. 371 I think maybe... though perhaps some made a cap or remembers for sure. It'd be nice if that could be manually corrected to reflect the correct historical record. Not a big deal though.

When links are included in the body of a Forum post, it's very hard to tell that they are there.  They are underlined, but very faintly and hard to see unless your mouse happens to hover over them.  In the old forum, it at least changed the text color for links so they were very easy to see.

Yes, that is highly annoying. The workaround I use is to use the underline tag around links.

Another, minor, bug which I just noticed today: if you try to add a thread to your Bookmarks, whether or not it's already in your Bookmarks, you will get the "The topic was successfully added to your bookmarks!" message. Before the Forum "update", if you tried to add a thread to your Bookmarks when it was there already, you'd get a "The topic is already in your bookmarks" message.

Don't know if it was mentioned before ...
A) On mobile device (my example android phone and a chrome clone browser) in the thread list I see no columns, while on Desktop Browser I do:
- Replies / Views
- Last post

That appears to be a bug in our software. I have seen columns in thread lists in Safari on my phone, but now I can't get it to display that way.

B) Then at the top of a forum/subforum in the mobile version it only shows " Breast Expansion Archive Forum " and eg. "General Discussion". The subforum "Discussion inbetween misses". On Desktop Browser version all is available as usual. This behaviour makes it difficult

I'm sorry, but I can't understand what you're trying to describe here.

C) in member search on desktop browser it shows: "  View All Members
 |    Search For Members". On mobile device it only shows a light blue and dark blue box without text.

Bug in software. At least the buttons work, though. Thanks for your reports! –gonZo

Anti-social behaviours lack consideration for the well-being of others. Any types of conduct that violates basic rights (human rights is one of them) of another person. It can show as covert or overt hostility.

yes. seems so. tdotter mentioned it above and gonzo answered and I mentioned it in that other thread some time ago ...

Hi solve, based on your bug report here and in the GF Keisha Evans thread, I went ahead and tested the Search tool a couple different ways... it seems to work about the same as it always does (that is to say: not great, but sorta). Please see the attached cap-within-a-cap to see my search settings and results... in case you're setting something differently.

Also, I've already reported as a bug the fact that the Search tool results now link the user to the oldest possible post within a thread, whereas the most recent post would probably be more appropriate (all else (search relevance) being equal of course). :)

:-[  I'm embarrassed to admit that I was pressing the WRONG button. I'm still used to the old way in which the search button was in a different place. I saw on the upper right corner where my avatar is ( courtesy of gonzo who provided it to me ) a magnifying glass icon and I figured that was the search button. Sorry to annoy you guys.  :-[

Pal says: not a prob solve... just relieved it's not yet another bug we have to report to admins. :)

Sol, clicking the magnifying glass icon doesn't do anything, but when you move your cursor over it, it should expand into a search textfield with which do searches like the old forum did. That search field only searches inside whatever board you're on: if you search while on the Off-Topic board, it only searches inside the Off-Topic board. But if you're on the forum's main index page, it searches all boards.

Please try that and let us know if it works for you.

For example on desktop I see this:      "Breast Expansion Archive Forum" "Discussions" "Site Issues" "BUG REPORT THREAD for 12/29/2015 FORUM SOFTWARE UPGRADE"

on a mobile I only see this: "Breast Expansion Archive Forum" "BUG REPORT THREAD for 12/29/2015 FORUM SOFTWARE UPGRADE"

It makes it impossible to have a quick short cut to go to let's say the subforum "Site Issues".

Now I understand. Thanks for the additional explanation. Yes, the subforum name should be displayed and navigable in thread view. That's probably a bug. (I say "probably" because the programmer necessarily downscaled the features when porting the desktop version to the mobile platform, and I don't know what items were removed intentionally vs what items are misconfigured.)

Just an FYI... gonZo and I test-drove the new chat (Ajax Blueimp) tonight and it works very well... I think most users will be quite happy with it (supports private chatting, embedded images, etc... plus, it seems stable at least for the hour we kicked the tires).

A few config tweaks need to be made and then admins will make it public... perhaps as soon as in the next day or two. :)
