So, SpaceX won the original contract for the Human Landing System for Artemis, but it was only for Artemis III and IV. For a sustained HLS to the Moon, NASA held another competition where the first winner wasn’t allowed to compete. Blue Origin won this part the other day with a revised version of their lander. Thankfully missing was the three story tall ladder. The new lander has the crew at the bottom. It’s debatable that this will be ready to fly by 2027, there’s just a lot that needs to be built from scratch in just a few short years and the companies involved have a poor track record in getting anything built quickly. The Chinese will probably take over the southern crater on the Moon where most of the water ice is and tell us to get lost.
Welcome to the new space race, Jeff.
