An early precursor to the extreme skinny skyscrapers they're building today.  Amazing it only existed for 13 years.

The Gillender Building in New York City.

It stood on the northwest corner of Wall Street and Nassau Street, on a narrow strip of land measuring 26 by 73 feet (7.9 m × 22.3 m). At the time of its completion in 1897, the Gillender Building was, depending on ranking methods, the fourth- or eighth-tallest structure in New York City.

Demolished in 1910.

I apologize in advance if I post duplicate pictures in any of the picture threads I deal in.  My MO in getting pictures of one girl is to rip her Instagram.  That ends up with me having up to 2000 pics of her.  I've tried almost half a dozen duplicate finder programs, and none of them find all of the duplicates I inevitably end up with.

Started on 18 April, 1506, and completed and consecrated on 18 November, 1626, located inside Vatican City in Rome and it is the single largest church in the world, it was built on top of where the tomb of Saint Peter, the chief of Jesus' apostles and the first Pope of the Catholic Church, it remains and is the global headquarters of the Catholic faith and where the Pope resides.

Remarkable to me, how a historically super important site in human history, began with very humble beginnings.  :o

A great loss for both education and architecture.  I've never seen a building like that before.   :)

The US Army picked it specifically for it's isolated location.  Before they exercised the right of eminent domain over the land, it was a ranch.

I worked at the Hacienda hotel and casino from November of 1995, my first job in Las Vegas, until October of 1996, and on New Years Day of 1997, it was imploded to make room for the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino. It was opened from 1956 till 1996. I then went to work at the Luxor.  :)

Love all the balconies!  No lack of space to go outside on sunny days, there.   :)

Looks MUCH nicer than it does now.  A lot less crowded, too.
