Built from 1709 and finished in 1729 at the city of Orizaba in the state of Veracruz in Mexico, where my dad was born, the Iglesia (church) de la Concordia is where my father was baptized in 1925 and as a ch1ld he attended church services, in 2018, his ashes were placed in the columbarium inside the church where they are by some other family members. Orizaba has multiple churches built in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The Guggenheim Museum in NYC.  My daughter just visited there the other day.  If you’ve never been there, you take an elevator to the top and then the exhibition space is one long ramp that corkscrews down from the top with the center open to the roof.  Great place.  But, for modern art lovers only.

The first true megaresort to be opened at the Las Vegas Strip, The Mirage Hotel and Casino, built and opened in 1989, will be closed for good on July 17th of this year. Its iconic volcano has already been extinguished  and the new owner, The Hard Rock resort, will/might knock down the towers and build a giant guitar tower where the volcano was. Many locals here in Vegas are saddened because it is the equivalent of what happened to the Pennsylvania Station in New York, the destruction of a great landmark for a possible replacement that will probably never be as good as the original.

Built in 1909, which makes it the third oldest motor speedway in the world, at 2.5 miles or 4 kilometers in length, with a permanent seating capacity of 257327 which makes it the world's largest sports capacity venue in the world, and it can fit up to 400000 people if you count those in the infield, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500 race.

Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, is the Department of Defense maximum correctional facility. It is the second oldest continuous Army facility, formed in 1827, and it was also where the 10th Cavalry Regiment was formed in 1866, where an all black regiment was formed and they were named The Buffalo Soldiers by the American Indian tribes that they fought against.

Built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu of the old kingdom of Egypt 4624 years ago and the only remaining of the seven wonders of the world of ancient times, the Pyramid of Giza was the tallest manmade structure until the Eiffel Tower in Paris surpassed it. For many years it was thought to be single largest pyramid in the world until it was discovered that the Pyramid of Cholula near the city of Puebla in Mexico was discovered to be actually bigger since the jungle and forest in that area of Mexico covered it up and hid it until modern times.

It may have been iconic and it’s sad to see something so synonymous with Las Vegas go, but it doesn’t look like great architecture, per se.  Not that a big guitar hotel is, either!   What they should have done is, at least,  kept the volcano.  That would’ve been cool.

  I find it odd that Hard Rock didn’t have a casino in LV by now.  I wish they had torn down the old Taj Mahal and Trump casino when Hard Rock bought them in AC a few years back, but they did it on the cheap and just gutted them and built a big guitar in the courtyard.

The Hard Rock did have a casino in Las Vegas. It wasn't on The Strip, aka Las Vegas Boulevard, but off The Strip about a mile East on the corner of Harmon and Paradise  streets and then they shut it down due to the pandemic and sold off the property to Virgin hotel properties and recently Hard Rock, which is partly owned by the Seminole nation of Florida, bought the Mirage Hotel and casino on The Strip from MGM Resorts and the Mirage will be fully shut down on July 17 and yes, they are putting a huge guitar shaped suites tower where the iconic volcano of the Mirage was.
