Pity, I hope she does find the peace she wants however I doubt she will find it going down the path she choose.  Hopefully she will find the balance between inner peace and acceptance

First of all this thread is beginning to smell like an off topic thread.

Secondly, I am not bagging on rational people who look to their deity for solace, but it's clear from her erratic post that she has been emotionally disturbed and has substituted belief in Jesus as an excuse for the councelling and therapy she clearly needs.

I meant it when I said poor kid, I truly feel sorry for her.

I reserve my ire for religious hacks who step in and try to do the work of qulaified mental health care professionals.

I've never been a fan of hers (she just didn't do it for me, y'know?) and I'm religious though hardly a Bible-thumper, but I say 'good for her.' I'm sure that a lot of what she's saying is true, in terms of the real-life circumstances behind a lot of models' careers. If she's found a way out that works for her, great. Lots of these models turn to booze, drugs, etc. as a means of escaping how they feel about themselves and their lifestyles, so regardless of what anyone here thinks of religion, her choice strikes me as likely a lot healthier.

To her credit, there's plenty of overzealous religious people who don't make the kind of sacrifice that she is. I mean, she's putting her money where her mouth is because she's cutting off what sounds to have been her main source of income. That takes guts, especially in this economic climate. I hope it works out for her.

As blunt as that may have sounded, I couldn't agree more with that... spot on.

And I'm not assuming that she hasn't gotten some sort of help already, but if this is indeed for real, the first thing that comes to mind is that scene in "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" where everyone is running into the river so that they can be "saved". However right people may see it, it's just another quick fix for a much bigger problem.

But at the end of the day... whatever floats your boat I guess.

I've been around the business a long, long time. A few women leave the business feeling like that. Very few.

Part of what she says is true: Most women get into nude modeling to make a few bucks. I part company with her on all the rest: The women who get in to make a few bucks almost always do that, make some bucks,and get out. If they stay in the business, it's because they like it.

The porn community is pretty tightly knit for a whole bunch of reasons, not the least of which is the simplest: If you stick with the society of sex workers, there are a lot of things you don't need to explain.

Women who feel good about themselves and what they do, like Annie Sprinkle or Sharon P. Kelly, are a lot more interesting to talk to.

With the people I have known there is a much darker side that Erica (if that's Erica's writing) doesn't write about. The short, non-clinical version is simple: If a woman gets into the hardcore business, either she likes it or she doesn't. If she doesn't like it, but stays in the business more than a year, she's doing it for a reason she doesn't understand. And it has nothing to do with Jeebus. A good example would be Linda Borman (a/k/a Lovelace) who, at one point in her life would have written something very much like what's on Erica's site.

I don't think it was hacked, AVN confirmed it last night and it's been on another couple of sites.

As another poster said, she's not the first model to leave and won't be the last; I'm sad she had to supposedly see so much pain and substance abuse in her career--however, I don't see much difference in the mainstream modeling industry, where the goal isn't so much to look good naked as it is to be as thin as possible.

I find the whole born-again thing to be such a cop out.  Write off the last 10+ years of your life to help mend broken wings and heal burned out hearts that can't dance on stage anymore because you can only hide the coke nose and C-section scars so long.

It's a vicarious industry, no doubt about it. If these women are in pain, drug abusers, single moms, whatever...they're doing what they can to make money--it just so happens you make 40X more taking your clothes off for the camera than you do waiting tables at an LA bistro.

If she had met someone, if she just decided to retire, got pregnant, whatever, it would have made more sense. Now instead of us, she's giving it all to Jesus.  I can't call it sad, but I can call it weird. It's her life, though.

It appears to me she just tried to take on too much, modeling, animal rescue, the farm, the family and so on and all of it just came crashing down around her.  I do feel sad for her.  Unfortunately, I think, she made the worst decision in trying to right her life.  Other options were open to her if she would have found the right people to counsel her.

I'm going to attend Glamourcon this weekend.  Maybe I can find more information.

I mean, everybody's talking about how she's wrecking her life, how she really needs psychological help, how she's gone started pretending the last decade of her life never existed. Yet she, who obviously knows more about the situation than we do, didn't say anything of the sort!


I have to wonder, did anybody actually read her letter?

Yes. Did you? She was pretty clear in stating that she saw the work she has been doing for the last ten years as unacceptable. In my earlier post I noted that usually a year is enough time to figure out what work isn't for you.

instead of a succinct goodbye message, she decided to rant from her christian soapbox.  that leads to the types of responses (which i must say are hardly inflammatory) that youre seeing..

The part that bothers me is that she feels bad about what she has done in the past, as if someone devalue her worth. Not often do they teach about Jesus washing the feet of a prostitute.
