Is anyone else disappointed that the designers of the Tomb Raider game have decided to reduce Lara Croft from busty to barely above average?  I was always a bigger fan of Lara than the actual Tomb Raider games, so I'm done with the series, but I just have to ask why?  Will the flatter Lara really sell more copies?

The mainstream is really becoming obsessed with flat, skinny, or athletic girls.

Maybe to make her resemble Angelina Jolie a little more? I mean they didn't make her get a BA to play the role. That movie might be the first exposure some people had to the Tomb Raider thing so they might want to keep the look somewhat consistent with the movie. They already made their money off loyal fans so now they might be going after the Nintendo level, mass-media market.

I also disagree that the mainstream is obsessed with the Paris Hilton look. Nike has even now jumped on the 'reality' advertising bandwagon:

Right.  The games always sucked hardcore, the controls were insane, and the only thing they had going for them was their hot hot heroine.  And that blows now too.

Ironic thing is that her original Large bust is what caught everyone's eye.  Say all you want about 3D platforming gamplay and sprawling levels, Her bust(and it's size)was the original selling point.  Why they keep shrinking it is beynond me.

I don't think I've ever seen my own thoughts so perfectly and succinctly expressed by another person.  I never really liked the Tomb Raider games, but I adored Lara.  She was actually the thing that first turned me on to large breasts.  Deflating her was, quite possibly, the dumbest move the developers could have made.  Of course, the Tomb Raider movies were a pretty abysmal concept as well.  

As for the mainstream's obsession smaller chests; I think I may have a lot to do with 'political correctness' (ie. not doing anything that might potentially have even the slightest chance of offending somebody), as well as the pressure from all of the feminist groups lobying the entertainment industry and claiming that large-breasted heroines promote and unrealistic and overly-sexualized image of women.  

I find it more than a little ironic that the very people who condemn bustiness as sexist are the same people who keep telling us that everyone is beautiful in their own way, and that we should formulate our own, individual idea of what is attractive, rather than simply swallowing whatever image the media promotes.  Simultaneously however, these same people are constantly trying to tell us exactly what we SHOULD consider beautiful, and get pissed when our personal concept of beauty doesn't correspond with the one they've constructed, calling us sexist or shallow, or some other crap like that.

I never played the game, but I was intrigued by the idea of an amply stacked woman as the protagonist.  My favorite to portray Lara was Petra Verkaik (see hxxp://sendmefile.com/00055781)  I never could understand how Angelina Jolie could have been given the part--she's a C cup at best.

After getting burned by Tomb Raider : Angel of Darkness, Lara Croft fans, myself included, are warily watching this new title, Tomb Raider : Legends.  I must admit I'm intrigued.  We can only hope this series can redeem itself.

As far as Lara's diminished torso, I think one of the reasons the franchise started going to hell is that they were too fixated on Lara as a sex symbol and not concentrating enough on her role as an action heroine.  TR : Angel of Darkness was proof of this.  They thought that if Lara looked hot enough, players would not notice the pathetic gameplay.  Wrong.

Just my thoughts on the subject, being a gamer.

it seemed to me that they were just trying to get people to take it more seriously as a game.

i mean, when i was like, 14, yeah, i wanted to play games to see big boobies.

but i have the internet now.

honestly, whats the first thing you see when there is a huge chested girl in a video game?  for me, my first impression is the game sucks, so they put boobs to attract people in.  and the first impression of games is kinda important...its when you buy the game or not.

so if they made the female protaganist more realistically suited to fight stuff, it would also draw in people who like the realistic part of gaming.

i love big boobs, dont get me wrong.  i just hate them in games where the big breasted women is involved in action.  it doenst seem to make sense...

I never thought I'd find support for the flat chested Lara here.  Oh well.  I guess the only thing to do is just lament the passing of the only video game heroine with any uniqueness.
