I don't know that tattoos are a 'craze', given that it's been around since forever.  More popular now, perhaps, but the same can be said of plastic surgery in general, and breast augmentations in particular.  And literacy.  ("Why do I need to learn to read?  I'm but a simple farmer.")

Speaking of plastic surgery, it's interesting to note that without our lifetimes (hopefully there are no BEA members who can say that they're exempt from this definition) that plastic surgery has evolved from this hush-hush, we-don't-talk-about-that-sort-of-thing to something which is not only more commonplace, but more acceptable and more accessible to the masses.  Some may not think this is a good thing, but surely within the past two generations there have been folks who thought that proactive dentistry was either unnecessary or "just a passing fad".

I just realized something.  I never thought that plants would be deliberately sold which were incapable of reproducing (thus **77** the marketplace to re-purchase the same item year after year).

Apparently, "competitive eating" is now considered a sport.  A televised sport.  Hey, let's watch some guy cram 66 hotdogs down his gullet!  Pay no attention to the **113** festooning the "athletes!"  They can't do anything useful, but they sure can eat!  What's more American than that?

Uh, I thought that he'd only had to have his wisdom teeth pulled fairly recently, not that there was any injury.  That said, the contender in question still managed to beat his previous record.

But, hasn't competitive eating been around for a while, just not as well known as now?  I mean, I seem to recall something around WWII era college frat-guys doing this live-goldfish eating thing.  And I seem to recall movies even in the 80s that involved pie-eating contests, hot-dog eating contests, etc.
