I remember watching "9 To 5" over and over when I was a kid.  I loved the movie because I loved the power that the women had.  I also remember thinking how big her chest was.  Never did I think I would someday be as busty as she was.  It would have been inconceivable.

What surprises me is that she became so mainstream, yet today a woman as busty as her is not seen on television and in mainstream movies.

I think, perhaps, the only reason she became as mainstream as she did (besides shameless self-promotion) is because she herself used her chest as the butt of many jokes.  Thus, it was "OK" for her to be mainstream.  (Fortunately for mainstream America, she just so happened to be a SERIOUSLY talented songwriter.)

Ok, so maybe Dolly contributes to the notion that big boobs are more a comedic device than a thing of beauty.  That's OK, she's laughing all the way to the bank.  And so am I.  Call me politically incorrect, but to me there's no bigger turnon than a woman with a sense of humor about having big breasts.

Well I'll say this for Ms Parton, it's her name that always gets touted around when the people of the world think of a woman with serious knockers.

She, the progenitor of a world view and a male mind set that said "wow I want me some of those!"

What a lil' darrlin' she is with the unashamed admittle from me that wow I'd hop into bed with that any day.

And she was the first woman with boobs that big I ever saw. Hot damn.

The original "holy shit look at the size of those" girl.

Thank you Craig for a most eloquent disertation on our beloved Dolly.  Perhaps it should be the keynote address at the next BEA convention.

Yes, Indeed Dolly has done much to make buxom breasts an acceptable part of society.  When you think of busty, you think of Dolly.  When you think of Dolly, you think of buxom breasts.  Kind of like Kleenex and facial tissue.

The question that remains in my mind, is When is she going to whip them out and give everybody a look? Or is that part of her persona as an entertainer, to constantly tease everyone with her tight outfits and few inches of clevage?

Perhaps in a few years when her stardom wanes and needs something to put her in the spotlight again?  Kind of like Farah Fawcett.  Well I hope it happens soon!!

If I'm not mistaken Dolly has always had implants. I think she sorta grew into them and they started to look natural. Chessie Moore has envolved into her implants.

Nope.  Take it from an old country music DJ.  Dolly only had implantsa put in after she lost so much weight.  She did an interview where she talked about looking at her self ina mirror after the weight loss and saying "I gotta get these things up off the floor!"

She went on a diet after seeing herself in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.  Which was a shame.  All i have to do is think about her in that black and red outfit....

Excuse me.  Back in 20 minutes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q.  Has Dolly ever had any plastic surgery, breast implants, etc.?
A.  Yes.  Dolly has had her share of "nips, tucks, pulls, and sucks".  Contrary to what the tabloids may tell you, Dolly is not a fanatic about looking younger.  She has said many times that she is simply trying to look the best that she can look.

Q.  Has Dolly ever or will ever pose nude?
A.  No, to my knowledge, Dolly has never posed nude.  Whatever pictures you may find around the net of her nude are fake.  However, Dolly said that on her 100th birthday, she has agreed to pose nude for Penthouse magazine.

Pardon me while I stare...

A woman with a sense of humor regarding her appeal is not necessarily a good thing in the eyes of America. Look at what happened to Jayne Mansfield's career. No one took her seriously (she would say her figure was "abnormal"). Compare her to Mae West, who even at her chunkiest, knew men went wild over her (and, thus, they did). But also see what happens when you take things seriously (you get censored, as Mae did). I've never seen "Sextette", but know about it. Mae was over 60, and still playing the sex goddess.

Really?  The way she looked in *that* movie made her decide to lose weight?

Dammit dammit dammit!!  That's where I thought she was at her absolute best, and while I saw the movie only once, I could've sworn that she was significantly more than a DD cup.

Plus, that extra voluptuous, very hourglass shaped figure....

Ok, I have to stop now or the agony of thinking of this loss is going to prevent me from getting any **82** tonight.

I have to admit she is pretty funny and does sound like she has a fair amount of intelligence and a very strong business sense.  I've never heard any of her country aside from the theme song to the movie "9 to 5", but I've heard her blue-grass and it's pretty nice (then again I'm partial to classic-rock and that has roots in blues which has roots in blue-grass).

Great speech Mercer. I agree in toto with your premise. The word "busty" and Dolly Parton are synonyms. She was always a big'un, and she always did the "dumb blonde" routine, but do not be fooled. She is one sharp cookie, great businesswoman, and is a perfectionist. They call her the "Iron Butterfly" round Nashville way, because she don't take mess from her musicians, and will not hesitate to give any of them the chop if they screw around (no, not THAT kind of screwing!).

Maybe I'm just a revisionist, or I've been spoiled rotten by our silly-string crew, but come on, Jane Russell wasn't all THAT big. She just had a remarkable structural engineer working on her bras (Howard Hughes).

Ah, you must've made a wish unconsciously, and the Big Boob Fairy was listening in. Lucky you! And yes, if I have to mention the one film of Dolly's in which she was displaying her charms like no man's business, it was 9 to 5 (which also had a very good theme song, BTW). Dabney Coleman is one of the luckiest men alive. Dolly Parton and Playboy's Bunny 25th Anniversary issue were two of the triggers for my interest in big boobs. Thank you both!

And I must also admit that I have my mom to thank for my interest in DP. She is a great fan of her music, plays her stuff all the time. And I grew up listening to her music. Then I discovered what she looked like. And then my mom had to periodically come to my room and collect all of her albums back from me. And there was my mom thinking that I was only listening to the music. Ha! I was ogling the covers, big time! I think her bluegrass stuff is some of her best stuff in years...look at her cover of Collective Soul's "Shine", for example. Great!

But I think that the most attractive part of her personality is her ability to make such fun of endowments. LIke the time she was on Letterman and he asked her about her amusement park (Dollywood). "Do you have rides, like Magic Mountain?" he asked. Whereupon she straightened her back, stuck out her massive torpedoes and quipped, "Magic Mountain? I got Twin Peaks!"

That's a funny way of putting it, but, yes, it is simply amazing how naturally huge Chessie looks. It took me some time before I realized that she had implants (silly-string?). She must have the biggest and best looking growth in history. Amazing woman.

That dolly-online site is a good source of information and pictures on the great lady, and features transcripts of interviews. Here's a snippet of one of them, conducted by Paula Zahn and Leon Harris of "CNN American Morning" (July 9, 2002):
In reply to:

ZAHN: Now, Leon Harris mentioned earlier this morning that you were the first famous person he interviewed.  Do you remember the first question he asked you?

PARTON:  Yes, I do.

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR:  Oh, no.

PARTON:  I remember.  He won't like this because he would be embarrassed.  He was so nervous that morning and I had on a low-neck shirt and he looked at me and the first thing out of his mouth was "Are they real?"  And I said, "What, my fingernails?  My eyelashes?  My hairdos?"  And he said, "Well, I'm talking about your beautiful green eyes.  Are they real?"

HARRIS:  There you go.  See, I cleaned it up.

PARTON:  He cleaned it up for me.  But he was so embarrassed and they laughed at him so hard at the station.  But I've always loved Leon.

ZAHN:  Well, you have never been shy, too, talking about what you've enhanced along the way.  Do you want to go public with any of that today?

PARTON:  Oh, I -- well, they're pretty public as they are.

HARRIS:  Amen.

PARTON:  I don't know if I'm supporting them or if they're supporting me.  But it doesn't matter.  It's like I'm never offended by the jokes.  I'm flashing 'em out there.  So, I mean it's all part of the whole package.  But I had plenty before I enhanced 'em, too.

ZAHN:  Well...

PARTON:  I just have to pick 'em up now and then.

I recall hearing the same thing about her diet.  I also recall that her diet supposedly consisted of Jolt Cola and Jello.

It turned out they really were brains after all.  Maybe that's why she's part owner of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
