I'm predicting a bunch of tight pennant races, with some surprises. There's a lot more balance in baseball these days.

NL: Mets, Cardinals, Dodgers, with the Phillies as the Wild card.

AL: Red Sox, Tigers, A's, with the Twins or Indians as the Wild card.

Barry Bonds will break Aaron's career HR record, but there will be very little celebration. Especially if it happens on the road. Heck, in that case, he might even get booed off the field.

It's all definitely sad.  No way you can claim otherwise.  But to try to salvage anything out of today's slop, referencing to the past...Barry Bonds never failed a test, he never pretented to lose the ability to speak when interviewed, and he still continues to put up great numbers despite so much scrutiny.  So....I really think it's our loss because without all this crap Barry would probably still have been the most amazing player of our generation.

Well, the fact that the only team with a worse record in the AL than the NY Skankees is the KC Royals, and Mariano Rivera currently has over a 12 ERA with 0 saves is as good a reason as any to top off the baseball thread here.

Well, the Yankees are continuing to tank, with no help in sight. Not even Roger Rocket. The papers say Torre's days are numbered, but to be fair, the guy hasn't had much to work with this year.

Meanwhile, the playoff dates have been announced. If the World Series goes seven games, they'll be playing in November. Who's rooting for a Milwaukee-Cleveland WS? What would MLB do if a game is postponed by snow, or the gametime temperature is below freezing?
