There have been quite a few 'first time evers' and 'first time in a long times' in this series.

Did any of you get your free taco?

This is going to be good. The Phillies' ace is out of the picture, pretty much. Tampa Bay's hitters seem to be coming out of their **85**. Will the Phils win the mini-game and the Series, or will the Rays take it back to St. Pete?

I live 75 miles from the Mexican border -- I don't want any taco Taco Bell offers me, even for free.

Also, my Phillies responded, demanding the respect no one gave them during the entire series.

I was at the first game of the 1993 NLCS, I can't say I missed the weather I saw during the WS in Philly, but I still wish I could have been there.  So sweet, so intense.

Now maybe at least some people will pay attention to us in 2009.

Congratulations to the Rookies of the Year, Geovany Soto of the Cubs and Evan Longoria of the Rays.

Here's to more successful seasons from them both!

A tip of the hat to Tim Lincecum, this year's National League Cy Young Award winner. Imagine what his stats would have looked like with a better team than the Giants backing him up!

Kudos that he won so strongly while backing such a weak team.  If only they had let Barry play for them.  Guess it was more profitable.

More applause for the Managers of the Year: Joe Maddon of the Rays (no surprise there!) and Lou Pinella of the Cubs.

And the AL Cy Young Award goes to Cliff Lee of the Cleveland Indians!

And Albert Pujols wins the NL MVP......Can't argue about it on the basis of stats....But 2 years ago when he lost to Ryan Howard, he whined about how someone could win who didn't lead his team to a championship.....But this time he reiterated saying Howard deserved it then, and how he was glad to win now (since his team finished in 4th place).  Riiight.

Still think you did great, Albert, but your speech making and ass covering needs some work.

Congratulations to Dustin Pedroia, the AL MVP.

Remember, you heard it here first!

Now, as to the post-season awards…

The AL is easier than the NL, so let me get them out of the way first.

Cleveland’s Cliff Lee is the only sane choice for the Cy Young. Boston’s Dustin Pedroia looks like the MVP winner, but Josh Hamilton of Texas and the Twins’ Justin Morneau will get some serious consideration. Even Cliff Lee deserves some votes.

In the NL, the Cy Young ought to go to Tim Lincecum (Best W-L pct in the NL with an 18-5 record, and most strikeouts in the majors). Only trouble is the Giants sucked, and people don’t look to losers for winners. Which is why Johan Sanatana won't get it, even though with a bit more bullpen help and run support, he'd have well over 20 wins. C.C. Sabbathia helped the Brewers make the playoffs, but he was only in the NL for half the year. So the Diamondbacks’ Brandon Webb (22-7) is likely to once again take home the hardware.

For the NL MVP, Manny Ramirez has the same problem with the Dodgers as C.C. Sabbathia has with the Brewers. Ryan Howard of the Phillies and Carlos Delgado of the Mets were well-nigh invisible for much of the first half, which dragged down their batting average. The Brewers wouldn’t have made it far without Ryan Braun, but his stats don’t compare to the other candidates. Albert Pujols is among the league leaders in everything important, but he couldn’t carry the Cardinals on his own. Still, he’s the safe, conservative, boring choice.

Rookies of the Year? Fairly easy. Geovany Soto (Cubs) and Evan Longoria (Rays) are a large part of the reason their teams are likely pennant winners.

I can't help but notice that these Somalian fishermen are giving my hometown team an even worse name than they've already earned.

Why is that?  The Somalian fishermen are receiving far less a beating thanks to (IMO) unnecessary politically correct actions than the baseball team has ever received from their opponents.

So, we did get some tight races after all! And one of them isn't even done yet!

Why you should root for:

The Dodgers - So that Joe Torre can demonstrate that he really is a good manager.

The Cardinals - With Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainright, they've got the best 1-2 starters in baseball. And the ratings would be pretty good.

The Phillies - The last time a National League Team won back-to-back World Series was the 1975-76 Cincinnati Reds.

The Rockies - Because it's always fun rooting for the wild card team.

The Angels - They might actually be the best team in the American league

The Yankees - Because the poor Yankee fans have gone so long without a post-season appearance. :D

The Red Sox - See note for the Rockies

The Twins - So it can be shown that a small market team can win it all.

The Tigers - Because the city of Detroit needs something to go right for it.

And with regards to the Awards:

Cy Young Winners: Zack Grienke and Tim Lincecum.

MVPs: Joe Mauer and Albert Pujols (though I'd much rather see the Marlins' Hanley Ramirez get it, he doesn't really stand a chance. And Zack Grienke deserves at least a few votes, too).

Rookies of the Year: Chris Coughlin (Marlins) in the NL. And Rick Porcello (Tigers) in the tough AL field.
