I'd just like to point out a few things I read these past few days.

For Aaron, when #715 went over the fence, he was running past first base.

For Bonds, when #756 went over the fence, he had yet to leave the batter's box.

Baseball's career home run record is now held by someone accused of using performance enhancing drugs. The career hits record is held by someone banned from baseball for gambling (Pete Rose). The career batting average record is held by someone widely known as a dirty player (Ty Cobb).

The NHL's career scoring record is held by Wayne Gretzky. The NBA's career scoring record belongs to Kareem-Abdul Jabaar. The most important career records in the NFL are held by Emmett Smith (rushing yards), Dan Marino (passing yards), and Jerry Rice (receiving yards). Nice guys, each and every one of them. Not even the tiniest hint of scandal or foul play.

Last weekend was something for the record books indeed.

Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez becomes the third Yankee and the youngest player ever (32 years, 8 days) to hit 500 career home runs.

A few hours later, Barry "Asterisk" Bonds equals the career home run record of the great Henry "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron of 755 HRs.

And the next day, Tom "?" Glavine of the New York Mets gets his 300th career winning game.

A-Rod has reason to be unhappy. Yankees fans give him a very rough time because of his massive contract, when he plays well, they underrate him, when he enters a slump, they're like "We're spending a lot of money on you, you'd better step up or else!" Dude can't win!

He was like this BEFORE he came to the Yankees.  The people that succeed in NY have enormous self-confidence.

Reminds me of the scene in "Rudy" where the grounds maintenance supervisor reminds Rudy, who seems to have forgotten, that nobody can take his accomplishments away, other than when he does it to himself.

Alex just needs to go out and play, work hard, and smile every once and awhile.  Given a chance, New Yorkers will show their appreciation for his hustle.

Because back then he said he signed because of the potential he saw, not the money.  After a few years of losing, he seemed to no longer see the potential, but wanted the money.  Thing is, there was never any potential, he just wanted the $.  Later, he wanted the $ and the titles.

Phils keep winning....3 out, Braves fall to 4.5 out.  Ryan Howard is still cold, too.  Can't wait till he wakes up again.

Well, Cole Hamels won, but then they rolled over for the team with the worst record....Sick of how often they do this.  Guess it comes with being a Phillies fan, and certainly better than being some wussy fair-weather Skankees fan, but still...damn....win a game or two when you have it in hand and you'll change your season.

Sounds an awful lot like being a Toronto fan, too.  If not for John Gibbons' inadequate ability to manage the Jays might actually be in a playoff hunt instead of being the usual also-ran.
