Congrats to the Royals and Orioles! The ALCS should be a heck of a lot more fun than whatever happens in the NLCS.... Seriously, could any combination be more bland and boring than Giants vs. Cardinals? Take a look at who won the NL pennant the last few years:

2010 - Giants
2011 - Cardinals
2012 - Giants
2013 - Cardinals

Congratulations to the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants!

For those interested, they faced each other three times in August - the Royals won them all.

I knew the games were on cable TV -which I do not have - so I tried listening to them on the radio. It was freakin' impossible. You'd think that with the games being this important, one of the national sports networks (I'm talking to you, ESPN Radio) would override all local programming for the media event. No luck. My local ESPN Radio affiliate went with a local NHL game instead, even doing the complete post-game stuff instead of switching to the Giants comeback and dramatic win.

One might also reasonably expect that such an exciting game would be headline news on the sports pages.

Here's a screen cap of USA Today's Sports page from this morning (about 9:30 am, Oct 17). Come on, guys! Get with it!

It's Opening Day - when everyone has an equal shot at winning the pennant.

Well, except maybe for the Phillies.... But there really is an amazing amount of parity in baseball. So many teams have a shot at the playoffs this year that it's easier to list the teams who have no real chance. Only the NL East looks like it will go uncontested - but even there you'll have a serious battle for second place. Former powerhouses (Yankees, Braves) are falling into rebuilding years while new upstarts (Padres, Cubs) are rising into contention.

It's going to be a blast!

Tigers, Orioles, Rockies, and Braves are still undefeated after 2 games...and I suspect the Marinators won't see .500 again for a while.

I watched the last part of last night/today's Yankee-Red Sox game.It went 19 innings and it started at 7:30pm est and ended at exactly 2:13am est.I know because I looked at the time when the last out happened.
It was the longest game in Red Sox history timewise. The Sox won 6 to 5.There was two times in extra innings where the Sox took a one run lead but the Yankees came back with a run both times to tie it.
I was hoping to see a position player for either team have to come in and pitch but it didn't happen.
Anyone remember when Jose Canseco pitched an inning when he was with the Red Sox?
If I'm not mistaken,I believe he had to go on the disabled list because he suffered some injury to his shoulder or arm from pitching that inning.Lol-that's typical Canseco!

Not long, it would seem.  :-\

They are now 6-2. It was inevitable that they would lose, but to the...  Marlins???   :'(

The Tigers are 8-1???

The Yankees and the Mariners are both 3-6. I think that's hysterical. The biggest payroll in the game, and a team that was bought to advertise a game station are both equal fuck-ups.

And having just beat the Marlins 7-5, the Mets are in first place in the NL East.....

Two more home runs for A-Rod tonight. The year-off seems to have done him good.

And over in Queens, *another* win for the Mets. Bartolo Colon is 3-0.... with 2 RBI!
