Trek jumped the shark several times before the Borg Queen.  It jumped all over the third season.  It jumped in the first movie.  It jumped in the fifth movie.  It jumped when an early Next Generation episode about a civilization of blond joggers used Pantene bottles as serious props.  It jumped with Kirk's staggeringly disappointing death.  That critic will have to forgive me if I don't care that intensely about the purity of the Borg concept, as I am still seething over how Vulcans somehow lost their Spock-cool and their Sarek-cool and got reduced to nothing but irritating useless neurotics.  I even miss Klingons from before the days when their heads looked like ruptured footballs, when their culture was a chilling mixed tribute to Joseph Stalin and Genghis Khan, before it basically became the World Wrestling Federation.  Yes, the Borg Queen was an inherently contradictory concept, but I could forgive her existence for the span of one movie if only because Alice Krige was so good at it and her toying with Data was great stuff.

I can't take any "jump the shark" claims very seriously from someone who has evidently not just missed the proverbial boat, but an entire fleet.

Well, we're so far beyond it that while I am a trekkie to some degree, while not among the most fanatical, I also can't find any interest in me to pay to see this movie.

Too many "faces of today" without concern for anything else.  Bleah.  I can only hope this tanks as it so richly deserves.

I've been a fan since the original show, and even this soap opera looking cast won't diminish my respect for the whole concept. Admittedly, things have gone downhill since Gene Roddenberry's death--how could you expect anything else? I'll still check this one out--afterall, I swore I'd never watch TNG when it first came out, and after awhile I thought it was better than the original in some ways.
