The Afrobeat master Fela Kuti had a running battle with the military governments of Nigeria for years, and created masterpieces of agitprop music exposing their ills. One of his targets was the multinational corporation International Telephone & Telegraph, for whom he made a song with the acronym title: "ITT". Of course, Fela changed the meaning of that acronym to "International Thief Thief" instead

If no one has ever seen the James Coburn movie "The President's Analyst," check it out.  Coburn is a psychiatrist who finds himself in a wacky espionage power war between, among other players, "the CEA" and "the FBR."  By the movie's end, we discover that the ultimate enemy of everyone is TPC -- The Phone Company.

Beats the heck out of the days after the Challenger disaster, when people claimed it meant Need Another Seven Astronauts.

Yeah, that hit a little too close to the bone. The Challenger disaster was a watershed moment in which most people had a personal emotional stake (what with "America's Teacher" being on board along with what must have been one of the most diverse STS crews in NASA history). It happened in 1986 but it still seems like yesterday...

Another angle of the disaster

Yeah. It was like yesterday for most of the America viewers to watch that tragic accident to happen before  them on live television.
Just like all America was glue to their Television sets on 11/24/63 to get a look at JFK killer. to see in shock, Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald. And I was one of them

One of the classic understatements of all time -- someone looked at that huge plume of smoke going off in a dozen different directions and decided there'd been a malfunction.

Michael J. Smith, one of the astronauts, has become a personal hero of mine.  According to the black box, just before it blew up, he said "Uh-oh."  I should be so gracious in a situation one hundredth so bad.

CALPA - Canadian Air Line Pilots Association

I remember CALPA being mentioned many times in my dad's profession growing up.  I also remember driving by their office building many times.  It sorta looked like an upside-down wedding cake.

Which reminds me of another upside-down wedding cake acronym:

TRSA - Terminal Radar Service Area
