Because I can think of one specific name myself, so far as the spirit of this shootout was concerned.  It was that failed candidate Sharron Angle, when she recommended "Second Amendment remedies" against politicans you don't agree with.  I don't even care about assigning any blood on her hands.  I'm just waiting for someone like her to own up to even a little shame.  Even Joe McCarthy was shamed, in his way, by Joseph Welch.  But when this atmosphere keeps getting heated up, and there's this vague "Well, I'm sure someone equated Bush with Hitler, so let's not be concerned" as a response, I'm not impressed.  Yeah, Loughner must pay.  But when will pundits and candidates be shamed into the most simple and basic civic responsibility?  It's getting bad, and the question seems to become more and more pressing.

If she apologizes for anything (which she shouldn't have to) she admits culpability for what happened.  If she denies right now, it comes off as insensitive.  She offered condolences and prayers, which is the proper course of action.  No matter what, she's not "staying silent", so stop with the truth manipulation.
