I'm loving' Katie Couric. She's not editorializing at all, she just allows Palin use her own mouth to do herself in. She asks you a simple question ("What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?") and all you have to do is give an equally simple answer ("Off the top of my head, I DON'T KNOW.")...but nooooooooooo.

I like that video for another reason; what most people don't get, and what Biden does get and tried to explain, is that, at its base, Roe v. Wade is not about abortion, but about the right to privacy. This could be clearer if people actually bothered to read the decision and look at the precedents that it quoted.

Biden is gonna tear her apart so badly, that I'm actually worried that the Neo Cons are gonna spin this and say that he is heartless and sexist.
I can't think of anything creative to put here, so i give up.

You can count on that.

My prediction: given the incredibly low expectations, she does ok (as in, doesn't puke or pass out), and spends most of the time responding with vague talking points and nasty biting attacks against liberals.

As far as I understand it, the debate tonight is going to be very strictly controlled, and there won't be a lot of back and forth between the candidates.

yeah she will stick to her stump speech talking points as much as possible and probably be able to since biden should be concentrated on john mccain.   she wont implode but i doubt she'll really impress anyone who isnt already a far right supporter of hers...

Yeah. At the Republican Convention she made a joke about Obama using a teleprompter --- and read the damnned joke off a teleprompter.
Someday, chi1dren, this entire fuck-up will be yours.

Having just seen the VP debate -- which was much livelier than the determinedly dry first Presidential one -- I've got to wonder if someone simply failed to successfully explain to Palin that Katie Couric no longer hosts The Today Show.  She was adequate and competent tonight -- and suddenly I feel a little concerned for Tina Fey.  Tina might be able to say something like "Nucular war sure would hurt a whole lotta folks," but otherwise Palin didn't give her any good new gaffes.

I suspect that if we do see SNL try this, they'll work on the Palin-Biden contrast.  Palin will be played as doggedly sunny and full of platitudes, and Biden will be growing angrier at the sheer misrepresentation and inconsistency.

We've still got about another half hour of the debate on TiVo to go through, but I'm seriously tired of Palin's continual references to McCain as a maverick.  Honestly, give it a rest already.

Whether planned or not, Biden played a well-timed choke-up while making a reference to his son (parenting, I believe).  Definitely makes him seem more emphathetic.

On the whole, I seriously think that Palin needs a new pair of shoes to wear.  She must have worn out the ones she was wearing tonight, judging by the way she was completely dancing around with her answers.

And she did play the "I'm so cute" card at least once.  *GAG*

she did go back to energy and taxes for a number of different questions she didnt really have an answer for.  but she did a competant job and certainly rebounded from the horror show of those tv interviews...

I felt like slapping the bitch every time she WINKED AT THE CAMERA (and by extension we the viewing audience). This isn't the local Hooters -- this is a televised debate. That sort of come-on is entirely and completely WRONG, UNCALLED-FOR and UNPROFESSIONAL. Between that and her so-called folksiness (cribbed entirely from Reagan -- "there you go again", "shining city on a hill", etc.) and her actually giving a shoutout as if she was on Total Request Live, and her constant reference to maverick....Maverick. My. Ass....ugh.

I appreciated Biden going after the McCain "maverick" claim at the very end.  After so much Palin, it was a little bit of catharsis.

I wish Biden had just stopped everything, turned to Palin, and said, "Sarah, you're fine back home, and I'm sure you do a good job. But this is the vice presidency. And you are not up to the job. You lack the intelligence, the experience."

I know that going in, Biden was advised not to rough her up, but I think it was a missed chance.
