Picture this:

A man openly loves McDonalds, Little Caesers, Burger King and Taco Bell. Goes there everyday and just loves it.

Then he says: "We NEED real food." All the while praising these fast food joints. Anyone who challenges him on the authenticity of the fast food he eats, he gets on his high horse, acts all Godly and cannot fathom the possibility of him being wrong.

__________

"We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba,"

Quote
America's top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and, "casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."

The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy's defense secretary, Robert McNamara, in March 1962. But they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years.

"These were Joint Chiefs of Staff documents. The reason these were held secret for so long is the Joint Chiefs never wanted to give these up because they were so embarrassing," Bamford told ABCNEWS.com.

"The whole point of a democracy is to have leaders responding to the public will, and here this is the complete reverse, the military trying to trick the American people into a war that they want but that nobody else wants."

This is the sort of thing that could have happen on a number of different occasions. Who is to say that similar things has NOT happened or at least proposed.

Now, if something like this WERE to ever happen, will New York Times, Washington Post, CNN or any corporate media tell you the truth?
Imagine if Obama, Kamala, or Biden survived two assassination attempts and the media not publicly destroying the reputation of everyone who issued even the most mild criticism of them and then just dropping the story completely.

Yeah, I cannot either.

For me many of them are not alternative news, but plain gossip. Gossip that in the past the village idiot spread, but in online media times he can spread his gossip world wide and find similar fans and followers. Well if this is what they want, they can do as long as they do not damage or threaten people with it. But they can't expect that the rest of the people just want to her the same gossip.
For example I regularly remove such gossip news sources/channels from my smartphone. I don't want to become indoctrinated by gossip or even worse by coordinated, orchestrated, directed gossip that wants to fog my mind and insert bullshit into it.

If you categorize alternative media as gossip, then compare it to a "village idiot" just trying to spread his gossip, then the corporate media has you right where it wants you.

Can corporate owned media not indoctrinate you by coordinated, orchestrated, directed gossip?

@StrikezOne: Attention, if you click on that link you end up on corporate news. Maybe you first setup your gas mask because you think it might stink what you are going to read: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/11/22/a-harsh-truth-about-fake-news-some-people-are-super-gullible/?tid=a_inl&utm_term=.18c6fcfb509e

But if you believe(d) one of the fake news (gossip) / conspiracy theories (coordinated, orchestrated and directed gossip) described there and a huge number of other people also does, then god beware the rest of the world of your country or at least of those peoples. Really, I can't take some discussion serious anymore. It is comical or devasting at least.

Edit: By the way a 28 year old villiage idiot believed the Pizzagate and did a shooting there. So much to alternative information sources. They lack 95% of all journalistic standards or good practices. Every job has standards and good practices. That's why people have to learn the job. If villiage idiots founding blogs or spread gossip on social media then it is dangerous and sometimes even criminal and not an alternative information source. But hey, since I sound like I'm trying to lecture you don't listen to me, I'm one of the devils of the lefties.

The really bad - and I mean BAD and not just sad or irritating - thing is that we NEED good and honest journalism as much as we always have. We NEED to know our president-elect's ties to foreign businesses and governments, so we can know when he's putting his personal interests ahead of the country. We NEED the public to understand the trade-offs necessary to make the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act work. We NEED people to understand how the Carrier deal was a drop in the bucket, and that such deals are no substitute for real policy. We NEED people to realize why Coal isn't coming back.

And how do you know MSM won't cover up Trump crimes like they did for Hillary by media blackout Bernie in the primary and demagogue Trump in the general in exchange for access to his administration huh? The problem with your assumption is you're basically asking a monopolistic corrupt media to do honest journalism is like asking a drug cartel to arrest themselves and walk into jail, you're asking for the moon.

So when Bill O'Reilly called an abortion doctor "Tiller the Baby Killer" and got shot in a church, are you telling me all corporate media is responsible for his death right? What about when Donna Brazile, a paid CNN contributor, gave debate questions to the Hillary campaign ahead of time or when they gleefully showcased Trump's leaked tax returns while in the same breath Chris Cuomo told us Wikileaks leaked emails were "illegal", where were their standards and practices, huh? Or the fact that CNN saying the DAPL protestors were "violent" against police on their private land or how "chairs were thrown" by Bernie supporters at the Nevada caucus with Barbara Boxer was terrified for her life until video was shown of her blowing kisses to them, where was CNN's obligation to follow up on that, huh?

What you don't seem to get is the MSM is filled with the same village idiot bloggers you hound at just with fancy suits and a bigger audience that's all and before you paint all "alternative news" with a broad brush maybe you should a couple dozen video of The Young Turks, the Jimmy Dore Show, Humanist Report, and Secular Talk. You might have a different perspective of the world.

Maybe you just read again what I wrote before (bold below and bold above in my quoted post) and compare (yours bold above). I think you pulled that number of your butt. What do you base that statistic on? At least I list several examples of journalistic malpractice from CNN, Fox, and MSNBC. I think you're trying to pass off your opinion as fact.

Would you believe any evidence of where that 95 came from, or have you already made up your mind? Would it be okay if by "95%" he meant "almost all"? As in, a turn of phrase?

I keep hearing the media damned on all sides, not only here but just about everywhere.

What is meant by "corporate media"? What does the term include, and what does it not include? And what is meant by "mainstream media"?

Media have fractionalized to an extraordinary extent. We must include **24**, blogs and Twitter. Even a rural weekly newspaper is "corporate."

When someone damns mainstream or corporate media, they only rely on blogs written by some tool in a deer stand.

Mainstream / corporate media is any newspaper or network that publishes items they don't like or dares to challenge their viewpoint.

Well, they are owned by a corporation, so I guess so.

And it must bear repeating that their "Person of the Year" does not automatically denote approval; the title goes to the most newsworthy person. And given that, it's hard to deny their choice.

Recently (since the 60s), they've almost always chosen the President-Elect in an election year. So it really shouldn't be seen as some sort of "canonization".

This is not true and a statement with not much thought put into it. Lets continue...

Mainstream / corporate media is any newspaper or network that publishes items they don't like or dares to challenge their viewpoint.

You defined alternative media didnt you? Challenging mainstream viewpoints. Thats what alternative media is.... publishing items the mainstream doesnt like and challenges their viewpoint. It is not that difficult to understand.

Now we even have Hillary Clinton blaming "fake news" for her loss. The only thing she should blame is the fake polls that were perpetrated by the fake news (CNN, MSNBC).

@rtope: you posted a link that had a list of "fake news" people should stay away from, which was real shitty. Everyone talks about we need real journalists and what not. Well here is Gleen Greenwald's response to that Washington Post article:

Quote
“More troubling still, PropOrNot listed numerous organizations on its website as ‘allied’ with it, yet many of these claimed ‘allies’ told The Intercept, and complained on social media, they have nothing to do with the group and had never even heard of it before the Post published its story,” Greenwald wrote in response to the article.

In his article, the Post’s Craig Timberg did not initially include a link to PropOrNot’s website. “If readers had the opportunity to visit the site, it would have become instantly apparent that this group of ostensible experts far more resembles amateur peddlers of primitive, shallow propagandistic clichés than serious, substantive analysis and expertise; that it has a blatant, demonstrable bias in promoting NATO’s narrative about the world; and that it is engaging in extremely dubious McCarthyite tactics about a wide range of critics and dissenters,” Greenwald noted.

I mean, WTF is PropOrNot anyway? A real credible site. Damn the stupidity.

Here is another piece by Greenwald on a Clinton Fan manufacturing FAKE NEWS that MSNBC spread to discredit Wikileaks.

You guys want to talk about fake news?

How about the HANDS UP, DONT SHOOT narrative? What has resulted in that lie? The manifestation of BLM, the hatred towards cops and the death of cops! There is so much hypocrisy, it is insane. People worried that Pizzagate led to dangerous acts....

TO SUMMARIZE FOR THOSE tl;dr fools....

Fake news that equals racial division = good.
Fake news that equals decades of endless wars = great.
Fake news that can potentially expose the top politicians for their crimes = bad.

Here is everyones favorite, bernie:
Imagine if Obama, Kamala, or Biden survived two assassination attempts and the media not publicly destroying the reputation of everyone who issued even the most mild criticism of them and then just dropping the story completely.

Yeah, I cannot either.

Speaking of control of the media, Our Next President thinks he'll have enough time in his schedule to allow him to be the executive producer of another round of "Ce|ebrity Apprentice".....

It's not just that he's delusional about the duties of being in office - he will be financially connected to a network with a news department that will be covering and commenting on his work in that office. And given how The Cult of Trump joins in the fun with threats whenever their Dear Leader gets into a Twitter spat with someone.....

Quote
[Carrier union leader Chuck] Jones previously criticized Trump's campaign promises to keep Carrier and the affected jobs in Indianapolis and continued to be outspoken with his criticisms of the deal, telling The Washington Post earlier this week that Trump "lied his a-- off."

Jones told IndyStar on Wednesday night that he had been getting threats since The Post story was published Tuesday from people he said were Trump supporters.

"Calling me names, wanting to know if I have children," he said. "I better watch out for myself, and they know what kind of car I drive, that I better watch out for my kids."

Jones said later in an interview with MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell that callers had been asking those kinds of questions all day.

"Nothing that says they’re gonna kill me, but, you know, you better keep your eye on your kids," he told O'Donnell. "We know what car you drive. Things along those lines."

http://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/2016/12/07/donald-trump-tweets-jab-carrier-union-president/95121916/

....can you honestly believe that NBC News can be fair and unbiased in its coverage of the incoming administration? Remember, you're not the one getting threatened.....

Look, presidents do get away from DC every now and then. But whether on the golf course or clearing brush at the ranch, they are still surrounded by aides and staff and are still on call 24/7/365. And they aren't getting paid for it.

But having a job on the side?

"Where's the president? Prime Minister Abe is on the phone! North Korea's saber-rattling in the Sea of Japan has gotten bloody!"

"He's in a meeting with Mark Burnett, and he's left strict orders to NOT be disturbed!"
