You know, I'm still waiting for you tell explain what YOU believe or feel.  All you're doing is REACTING to my posts by quoting me, but providing no original thought or insight.  I've done nothing but explain my point of views almost to repetition.

You may not be stupid, but certainly plain boring, and taking my sarcastic remarks too seriously.

Edited that post quite a bit from the original, didn't you?

I'm happy to divulge my views.

Re: personal possession of firearms/weapons - While many respect the 2nd Amendment and an individual's right to protect themselves against bad guys, I think everyone would agree that a line has to be drawn somewhere for personal possession of weaponry.  Very few people want their crazy schizophrenic felon neighbor to own rocket launchers or dirty bombs.  With that in mind, I personally would draw the line at assault rifles (or rather, right before).  Handguns, hunting rifles, and shotguns have practical uses for hunting and home defense purposes.  I really can't see the use of owning an assault rifle, but more importantly, in my opinion the risks of having them easily accessible to the general population far outweigh the benefits.

I would have strict registration laws in place for anyone that wanted to purchase firearms of any type.  Ideally, I'd like there to be a basic training type class/test (like for driving); I believe some states like NY already have this type of setup. There would also be a considerable waiting period, and gun shows and such would not be given any exemptions for these requirements.

Re: prohibition of drugs - I believe that marijuana should absolutely be legal.  It's completely absurd that it isn't.  Again, it's a balancing test, and the risks of having marijuana legal aren't even close to the massive financial and societal drain of keeping it illegal.  I won't go over all the reasons here, as some have already covered that ground in this thread and there's lots of available information on it.  The only people who want to keep marijuana illegal are the ignorant and those who wish to preserve the status quo because they benefit from the continued prohibition (i.e. DEA, prisons, and drug cartels).

As for other illegal drugs, it would probably be a case by case basis.  If I were emperor, I'd likely make all personal possession offenses civil penalties, and slowly phase out other punishments in favor of treatment programs.  It wouldn't be perfect, but the current situation is an unmitigated mess.

My opinions aren't set in stone.  I could easily be swayed in regard to different firearm laws.  I can completely respect the opinion of some who want the government out of their life and telling them what they can and can't do or own.  What I don't respect is people that get all wild about one issue like guns and rant about freedom and big government, but then toe a party line when it comes to other personal freedoms like "drug" use, abortion, and gay rights.

Barnacle, please continue to insult me from the comfort of your own home, because that's all you can do.

Respect is earned, not bought or given away like a bunch of liberals handing out "free" money to bribe an entire country for their silent obedience.

You have my blessings to go fuck yourself, and the mule you rode in on.

As for Huge, sorry.  My original post was removed due to the crash and I don't keep copies after posting.

I really wish you had said all this earlier; it would have made better debating.  We can agree to disagree, and leave it at that.

I, however, do NOT toe any party line with all issues, but take them one at a time; I've decided for myself on most of them.  Just for the record, I'm pro-choice and pro-gay civil rights, but not sure for marriage.  I personally don't think I'll ever approve of an abortion, but that depends on the circumstances and most certainly, whom the "lucky" lady would be...

Help me out on this one then.  Despite you having little/no experience with illegal drugs, you just decided for yourself that you agree with the prohibition of marijuana?  You just don't like the idea of other people smoking a plant in the privacy of their own homes, and you support the government sending people to jail for doing so?

Ok, I'll concede to a point:  the prison term for marijuana possession is exceedingly harsh.  If I remeber correctly, a guy was sentenced 100 years for pot growing, but may have been reduced, hopefully.  In fact, given the number of users and it's overwhelming popularity, it may be feasible to treat such violators as misdemeanors or stiff fines.

Just because I haven't smoked or snorted illegal drugs, doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about them.  That's just like someone saying if you've never seen, been in, or directly affected by a war, you can't be pro/anti-war.  It's ok to be anit-war or anti-drug with no experience of either, because it's just an opinion.

The most experience I have with pot: in the Army, we had to "familiarize" ourselves with what it smells like.  The narc unit had some pot burning in a coffee can and we all took turns taking a "whiff."  Another experience: I was trying to bang a couple of chronic chicks.  One was 1/2 Korean & white, the other 1/2 black & Cuban.  But you know the saying: if you chase 2 rabbits, you lose them both.

Didn't really answer my question, but it's ok.  We've belabored our side-argument in this thread to death already.  I was wondering why you thought it should be illegal at all.  Snarkiness and general forum asshattery aside, I'm always genuinely curious why those who don't have much experience or contact with marijuana (or even those that do) think it should be illegal.

Is anyone ready to talk about Pres. Obama again?

How does anyone feel about his trip to the Latin American summit?  I hope they can seriously address the poverty in Latin America, for it's horrid.  I hope Cuba doesn't tax the shit out of Cuban-Americans sending money to their families.

How about N. Korea's missile launch, and withdrawing from nuclear talks...again?

Honestly, I really want to hear different viewpoints, and if there's anything else worth chiming in, let 'em rip!
