Having just received Tentai Box, I must respectfully disagree with Zatoichi on that one. I thought
that the Tentai Box Special DVD, the only new release in this box set, was outstanding–one of
the best Yoko DVDs yet. Bear in mind that I-one likes these special box sets because they can
charge twice as much for releasing only one new disk, but the thing is, the “extra” footage
contained in the “special DVD” is from the same vignettes as in the two prior releases in each set.
In this case, that means more of a good thing (while Tsuki no Kodo left me a little disappointed, I
thought Taiyo no Yakudo was highly underrated) as it essentially compiles more footage from the
best vignettes from the two DVDs. If you recall, Taiyo had some impressive sequences of Yoko
in some striking 2-piece bikinis, including running around scenes, and a gorgeous one-piece green
number with an unzippable, plunging neckline. The Special DVD features a lot more of this,
AND has more of Yoko in that dazzling white outfit we see at the conclusion of Tsuki. So that’s
an A+ to I-one for making the right calls as to what to include in the companion disk. In reality,
Tsuki and Taiyo (which were released on the same day) both seemed like halves of some greater
whole when they are viewed separately, so this Special DVD feels much more satisfying. All in
all, I’d rate Tsuki and Taiyo near the middle of the list of Yoko DVD releases to date, but I’d put
the Tentai Special DVD near the top.
